“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 via mobile

Just back from a 2 night stay at the Zuni Hotel. We had a ball. As soon as we arrived we had 4 or 5 staff members say hello and welcome us. The room was perfect and the beds are very comfortable. Could do with a kettle and tea and coffee in the rooms though. The food in the restaurant is cracking and the service is second to none. I couldn't believe how efficient and attentive the waiters were. Free wifi which actually works. We asked the receptionist for quick directions to the reptile zoo which she gave and 5 min later she had printed off a map for us. Thank you too all the staff for a very relaxing stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Lovely restaurant that is attached to an hotel, however feels like a separate brassiere. We ate from set menu and when joked with staff we were going to share stater and sweet, we were given (looking at other tables), larger portions. The main meals were well cooked and presented and they had a range of local craft beer and cider on drinks menu. The staff were very friendly and I would recommend a visit if in Kilkenny

What a lovely lovely meal. We booked a table for a special anniversary, The food was gold, and such good value. We were looked after by Shane,t
thank you for making our evening so special. The wine list complemented the food perfectly, and the desert was heaven. We just need another 12 months to pass so we can have a return anniversary date. I suspect we will book a room next time.

The rooms shown online were exquisite. On arrival I was rather dissapointed. Just an ordinary room and not fancy and pretty like online. Also the room was like an oven and you cant open any windows! However a call to reception and we had a fan dropped up. Also the parking area was a joke. Difficult to find and Absolutely crammed. Barely got a space. Very badly laid out car park shared with other businesses near by. Accommodating location if you intend to go on a night out as your near all bars etc. Staff were okay.

Spent two nights here recently. All staff, and especially Paul, were polite and helpful. Even the night porter did his job and moved some very noisy and drunk women out of the restaurant after midnight

Eat in the restaurant because the food is exceptional and a good price for the fixed menu.

Although we stayed only one night, this hotel and its staff was delightful. The hotel is very conveniently sited in the city centre very near to Kilkenny castle.

We arrived early in the day, too early to check in but this was no problem for the receptionist who immediately offered to store our suitcase whilst we explored the town. On our return, check-in was very quick and simple and the suitcase had already been delivered to the room.

The room itself is stylish, with white walls and mirrored dresser and side tables, plenty of storage space and an elegant and comfortable king-size bed. The only drawback was that the extractor fan of the restaurant below was sited just outside the window (probably the only room which had this situation) but as this was turned off when the restaurant closed late in the evening this didn't affect our sleep. The bathroom is well-appointed with a selection of toiletries.

The summer has been very hot and in common with many Irish hotels Zuni doesn't have air-conditioning (because we don't normally need it!) but as we passed the reception we casually asked if they had an electric fan. When we returned from dinner we found one of the managers installing the fan (actually it was hilarious - he opened the door just as we put the keycard in, and we all jumped in shock!) The service throughout our stay was personal and attentive.

Breakfast the next morning was in the cafe/bar at the front of the hotel, where they have a residents menu. We both asked for vegetarian versions of the breakfast offered (Eggs Benedict/French toast with bacon) and substitute ingredients were immediately suggested by the helpful waitress.

I definitely recommend this hotel for visitors to Kilkenny.

Room Tip: Avoid room 102 for the kitchen ventilator!

The Zuni was a little hard to find, but once we were parked in their free parking lot, we didn't have to drive anymore. Lots of restaurants and pubs nearby, a block from the Kilkenny Castle, and walking distance to old churches and shopping. Near the river.

My single room had a double bed, a desk, closet and shelves, coffee maker, TV, and good wifi. A light sleeper, I didn't hear much in the way of noise from the outside, but I did hear everyone in the rooms upstairs when they took showers. The included breakfast included orange juice, coffee or tea, and choices of three different types of meals. A good choice for exploring Kilkenny.

Room Tip: A second floor room might be quieter.
