We enjoyed our stay at Alcantra. Liam had a family obligation that took him out of town but he came back from Dublin for the one night just for us. The rooms are beautiful and immaculate. Brigid didn't come back from Dublin so we didn't get a chance to meet her but Liam was a great host. And his breakfast was wonderful. This B & B is within walking distance of the castle. Kilkenny is a busy little town so we were happy to have a place to park the car and do our sightseeing on foot.

We just had to write to tell you about this brilliant Bed & Breakfast with a brillaint hostess ~ what a find !!
Brigid, the hostess, is so welcoming, greeting us
with a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits in her lovely sunny conservatory. She gave us a map of Kilkenny, and had time to sit with us, pointing out different places of interest for us to visit, nothing was too much trouble.
Our rooms were beautifully decorated and very well appointed. Brigid's breakfast was so lovely, we all had the 'full irish' which was delicious and so were her home made scones, all this is not to be missed.
So if you are ever in Kilkenny, stay at Alcantra, as you will not be disappointed ~ thanks again Brigid.

This was the best B&B we stayed at during our two week trip through Ireland. The room was spacious and comfortable, Brigid was extremely helpful, and the breakfast was fantastic - the freshly squeezed orange juice and scones were wonderful. The only slight drawback was the walking distance to town (a little difficult for me being both pregnant and jetlagged).

This b&b was one of my favourites during my recent trip to Ireland and the main reason why i liked it was because of the warm hospitality shown to me by the owners. Located within walking distance of the heart of Kilkenny, this 2 storey house has lovely light coloured decor, plenty of space in the room and in the bathroom, car parking right in front , and a great breakfast, beautifully presented. The real drawcard, however is the ever-helpful and friendly assistance provided by Brigid, the hostess. She knows all the things to see and do in kilkenny and can point you in the direction of whatever it is you are interested in - i loved the craft galleries opposite the castle - thanks Brigid!

My friend and I stayed at Alcantra for two nights at the end of April. The owners, Liam and Brigid, welcomed us on our arrival. Our room was big, bright, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Liam asked us what we would like for breakfast the following morning and what time we would like to eat. They were very obliging with our request for a late breakfast (10 am), which was fantastic for lie-ins on our relaxing weekend away.

Breakfast was delicious; Brigid makes very tasty little brown scones! My friend is coeliac and cannot eat wheat, and Brigid was very helpful in this regard, even offering to buy some gluten-free bread for breakfast the next morning. Both Brigid and Liam gave us great tips on shops and restaurants and Brigid gave us her iron and ironing board to get our clothes ready for Saturday night.

The only minor drawback with the house is that the sound from the entrance hall/breakfast room travels very easily to the bedrooms, which meant that we tended to wake up whenever anyone went down for breakfast. Alcantra is about a ten minute walk from the centre of Kilkenny and (for anyone wearing high heels) taxis were easy to get.

Overall, we had a great time in Kilkenny and would definitely return to Alcantra.

I arranged a one night stay over email with Liam and Brigid Holohan, the proprietors of Alcantra. The booking was very efficient. When I arrived I had a welcoming cup of coffee in the conservatory.
My room was tastefully decorated with an en-suite shower, the bed was very comfy and the house was lovely and warm.

Breakfast was lovely, with a full range of fresh fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice and I could not resist the full Irish! Brigid's home made scone were delicious.
It was a perfect spot!
