Dunboy Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #38 of 74 Kilkenny B&B and Inns
Reviewed 28 August 2012

Helen made me feel so comfortable from the first email conversation. She provided me a very detailed driving direction to find her place. Breakfast was great.
It is a nice mid way spot to stay hopping from the west to the east island. I dont find Kilkenny City that interesting as others mentioned, but I still appreciated the touch of medieval.
Would be nice to have internet access for trip planning.

We made Dunboy B&B our base for our travels around this part of Ireland. Helen was a great host and able to give us the info on Kilkenny and travel to surrounding places. Also directed us to a good pub with great music. breakfasts were great and the bed comfortable.

Yes, Helen is lovely, and the place is spotless. Her suggestions about Kilkenny were helpful, and we love maps, so her hand-drawn map was a bit of a charmer, although it's not as necessary these days. On the other hand, we were surprised by the incredibly tiny bathroom and the fact that we couldn't have coffee in the room in the morning. It's a kilometer walk into town, and in July the way is very buggy (past the dog track). To be honest, the town is not very interesting, although Kilkenny Castle is worth a visit. This wasn't our favorite place, but it's fine if you know what to expect.

We drove into Kilkenny without any reservations and were able to find Dunboy on TripAdvisor. Arriving after dinner time and not expecting us at all, Helen was the most accomodating host we had through our trip to Ireland. She sat down with us and talked for a about half an hour telling us about all of the different places to visit while we were in Kilkenny. I can't say enough how wonderful and helpful she was! My only concern was how small the bedrooms were. I suppose because we came from 3 previous B&Bs that were a lot bigger this made us feel a bit crammed.

This B&B is in a great location, close to the city center, but on a quiet cul-de-sac. The rooms and common areas are clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic and highlighted by a selection of home baked bread from old family recipes. These details are enough to get a full five star rating, but I'm leaving out the most important attribute of the Dunboy B&B, Helen. She is such a great host. She is friendly beyond belief and seems to love running a B&B. She welcomed us in like family and treated us as such throughout our stay. She was a wealth of knowledge for the surrounding area, her food was delicious, and she made sure everything was comfortable. We simply had a perfect stay while under her roof.

We enjoyed our stay here- the room was small but pleasant and comfortable, and Helen was welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and the location was good for us- in a quiet area with a bit of a walk into town, but quite do-able. We felt welcome, and I would recommend this place to someone wanting a traditional B&B experience.
