“A great spot to get married”
Reviewed 12 August 2012

We had our wedding reception at the River Court June 2012. Right from our booking the staff were so helpful and really accomodating. This was really important as we live in the UK and had to make most arrangements by e-mail. Our wedding tasting meal was superb....Kilkenny beef and salmon were to die for! We just hoped that our wedding breakfast would be nearly as good on the day. Well we were in for a great treat as to our amazement, the whole meal was even better than the tasting despite being a large crowd. The staff were amazing, Martin in particular made sure everything ran like clockwork. A fantastic setting for a wedding, overlooking the river Nore and Kilkenny Castle, great food, atmosphere and service-all in all a great location for a wedding or just a weekend away

Really enjoyed our stay at Rivercourt hotel.Check in was fast and very friendly .Rooms were good and have what you need.Could do with a safe in the room to keep your valuables. The weather was great for our stay and we sat by the side of the river having a few drinks surrounded by a lovely setting (drink is quite expensive). The hotel is central to everywhere so you don't need to use taxis. Residents bar closes at 3am and under no circumstances could we get another drink from the night porter.Breakfast was very good which was a self service. Swimming pool was very nice and enjoyed the swim there.Would recommend this hotel but pity they would not keep the residents bar open a bit longer.

Stayed here last new years, was great. Clean rooms, good showers, comfy beds, brilliant location.

We booked in a group so they put us out in houses on the grounds, but then wouldn't let us into the residence bar later that night. Lose a point for that

Bernie (Sligo)
My Family and I stayed at this wonderful Hotel and we definately will be back. The Management and staff were so courteous and friendly. Our check in was very good and our room overlooked the river which give our family a beautiful view and a lovely ambience. The food was very good and the room very clean. We were within walking distance of everything the Castle, shops restaurants. The free parking meant so much and the children enjoyed all the Hotel had to offer. We are looking forward to our next trip and would recommend this Hotel to anybody.

Room Tip: Ask the manager and he is very helpful with giving you the room that suits you.

Stayed overnight in the first week in August. I had good expectations considering previous business stays at this hotel and thought this would be nice staying here with my wife this time.

Unfortunately, no suites or river view rooms available but that's no fault of the hotel just my timing.
The standard double room we got was comfortable and clean.
The only problems being the black mould on the bath grouting. This is a common problem with many hotels and easily taken care of. But i cannot understand why they cannot simply fix it.

The room we were in on the second floor didn't not have controls for the temperature or fan speed, so if the room was too hot you had to open the window. This may not be an issue unless a car alarm goes off in the car park below at 1.45AM or thereabouts, in which case you have a problem.

Most people visiting Kilkenny City expect to go out and visit the town, take in a bit of nightlife and enjoy the craic. After a short while out we returned around midnight to find the lobby controlled by a spetnatz type individual who informed us that the bar was shut for the night and drinks could only be had in the lobby. So, no reception staff around after 12ish...and so much for a residents bar!

After ordering two glasses of wine we were then told that they could not be charged to our room!

Upon visiting the gents, i found that the floors where wet, strewn with toilet paper and smelled to high heaven.

So much for a romantic evening out with the wife!

And pity the foreign tourist family checking in the next morning, as i was checking out, who were told that they were actually in the guest house down the street rather than in the main hotel.
Yep, out the archway and red door on your left. That's after the receptionist spent 10 or more minutes searching a box full of keys for the room. That would annoy me no end.

And charging your own guests for the use of your dusty and cobble stoned car park? I should charge the hotel for having to clean my car afterwards!

Hint: most hotels validate their own guests parking for free these days. Charges are more often than not a deterrent to non-residents usurping the spaces.

If this is what the River Court is offering i will be moving to the Pembroke the next time i visit Kilkenny.

Everything was very clean and roomy enough. No A/C but they did supply a fan for the room. Food service was decent, breakfast was very good. Very easy to find, could walk to everything. Easy, free parking. Friendly staff.
