The Bad News! This is our third stay at the River Court so we thought we knew what to expect. We knew that this hotel was not being maintained to a good standard but the friendly staff and perfect location in Kilkenny had out weighed our concerns in the past. The property continues to deteriorate. TV and Wifi signal was poor at best and was unable to send emails from the room. Bed very uncomfortable with badly sagging mattress. The Good News! The property has been sold and new owners will be taking over shortly. My hope is that the new owners realize the potential of this place and make it into the kind of facility it should be. If so, we will be back again next time we are in Ireland.

The positive aspects of this hotel are its location and the view of the castle. Having said that , the negatives far out weighed the positives. This hotel is the noisiest hotel that I have ever experienced. The walls are thin. You could literally hear every sound next door as if they were in your room. We had the pleasure of listening to a gentleman vomit all night. The room is out dated and in need of repair. The ceiling paint was peeling off. The doors only close by slamming them. The television signal is weak and wifi is impossible to get in some rooms. The food was fair but the service was poor. The staff seemed flustered and unavailable.
Now having said this, the exception was Karen at reception and the Manager. Both tried their best to help and ultimately discounted my room. They were the bright spot in a very disappointing stay.

From the start we had a wonderful experience and Debbie and her team couldn't have been more helpful. We found the facilities great and the rooms to a very good standard.Location is great with a brilliant restaurant just outside the front door - Yindees which Debbie recommended.

Easy to find ... car park obvious and no problems with space. Castle view room did have genuine view of castle and river and seemingly more space than others. Breakfast ... good food - but organisation level did vary a bit - very good most days, at least one day where items were constantly running out.
Had one meal and several drinks in the bar - excellent service, and reasonable costs.
Swimming pool clean and fairly spacious.
Location is biggest selling point - 3-4 minutes walk to castle and other items in city, large number of good nearby pubs with high quality live music - even the cathedral at the other end of the city is only about 10 minutes walk away. And a good location for exploring this part of Ireland, as well as being only an hour from the M50.
Minor issues - had to get ticket revalidated several times for car park as didnt' seem to quite work; and whilst room very comfortable, there were a few things lacking that I would have expected if paying this price in the UK (no minibar, pretty limited TV channels, no ironing board). Walls between rooms also not well soundproofed, and issues with noise on a couple of nights.
But overall would certainly use again.

Room Tip: Castle view definitely worthwhile

Lovely hotel, stayed here for a stag in a triple room, which was a huge room. More like a junior suite. Loads of space.
Breakfast was really top notch. We got down early on the Sunday morning, and had a lovely view over the river. Also full breakfast selection, and free newspapers.
Great location within the town, did a lovely walk along the river on the Sunday morning.
10-15 min walk to the station. Used bag storage, no issue
Nice hotel bar, with plenty of other bars right on your doorstep.

Room Tip: Went out to Gowran park Horse racing park, really great deal including coach transport to race track...

I would highly recommend this hotel to any group wishing to visit Kilkenny. It was central so everything was within walking distance and the staff were so approachable and friendly. I was there for my hen weekend and we had dinner included as part of the deal. The food we got was nice and there were a few choices available to us. Breakfast in the morning was lovely. Have already booked it again for another upcoming visit to Kilkenny!

Room Tip: Rooms above the main entrance can be noisy if there is a wedding on
