Located in a beautifully restored setting at the base of this gorgeous building, The Chapter House Tea Rooms have had a lot of thought & consideration put into their appearance & the setting is fabulous.
On our visit the tea rooms appeared to be thriving & there was a strong conversational buzz about the place. Unfortunately the down side of this is that the (excellent) server on duty was clearly stretched beyond capacity without help or support & was also let down by the order providers in the kitchen.
The menu seems quite comprehensive on initial glance, but was let down by having very little provision for one of our party who suffers from coeliac disease. This was a surprise given the vast options provided by so many nearby competitors'.
In addition, we waited quite a very long time for our simple order to be provided (Quiche, Rocky Road desert, fruit juices & coffees), which proved difficult with an impatient & parched duo of a 2 & 3 year old. The lady serving was wonderful & extremely hard working & couldn't apologise enough when she realised how long we had had to wait (although genuinely, it wasn't her fault).
On a positive note, the menu is fairly reasonably priced & once it arrived the absolutely delicious food & beautiful coffee could not be faulted.
The experience we had was disappointing overall, but perhaps we simply caught it on an off day.
