This is an easy review to write. Everything was great! There was nothing that did not please. It is everything we expected and more. Mairead and Jimmy are kind, thoughtful, warm, intelligent people who are ideal hosts!

Mairead and Jimmy were wonderful hosts. There is a very real danger that no other B&B will measure up to Newlands Lodge's high standards. Their B & B is clean, and welcoming. Mairead went out of her way to provide helpful suggestions for dining out and what sights to see the locally. Even providing all the touristy handouts that are so helpful. Mairead's breakfast that she provided was wonderful, freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruits, presentation was wonderful. Beautiful home. Not far from town, about 10 minutes and you're in town. Very quiet, a wonderful place to wind down after driving from Dublin. We had a wonderful 2 days with them and would highly recommend this B & B. We would stay with them again. Agree with dvd77, this B&B should be the "standard by which all B&B's should be measured". We are now at another B&B in Killarney and it is falling far short of Newlands Lodge.

We had 2 rooms at Newlands, which is a lovely house, decorated eclecticly with things the owner loves and has found around the world. She works hard to make guests feel relaxed and at home. Good sized rooms, comfortable beds. The garden was terrific, and it was nice to sit outside. Breakfast was good, with lots of choice and all served on beautiful dishes and glassware. This was further outside Kilkenny city than I expected, but it was not a problem for us to drive into town at night and we got good recommendations for places to hear music. (GPS helped us find it the first time). A visit to the ruins at Kells was also recommended (free site), and we enjoyed that. When one of us left a jacket behind, the owner drove into Kells to find us - that's the level of care and concern you'll find here.

Room Tip: Be sure to have cash on hand; credit cards are not accepted.

The hosts, Jimmy and Mairead, are very nice and friendly. I have no idea how she cooked the eggs or where she got them, but they were the best I had in Ireland. There was a nice assortment of fresh breads, cereals, yogurt and fruit. The room was very quiet, very clean, and nicely decorated. The bed was somewhat firm for us, but there was a hair dryer and free wifi, also free on-site parking. The one thing I didn't like were the separate hot and cold faucets at the bathroom sink. The lodge is a short distance from town, but still a bit too far to walk.

There's a lot to do in Kilkenny and the surrounding area. The climb to the top of the tower at St. Canice's is really fun. Also Jerpoint Abbey and Kell's Priory are definitely worth seeing.

Newlands Lodge was wonderful. From the moment we arrived, our hosts warmly welcomed us and made us feel at home. The attention to detail made us feel like we were staying at a much more expensive inn. The entry area is spacious and uncrowded, with a lovely sitting/tea room off to the right. The guest rooms and bathroom were spacious, impeccably clean and beautifully furnished. The view from our room was quite pretty, across country meadows with livestock grazing, or out the window to the well-kept gardens on the property. Everything from the sitting areas, breakfast area, and guest rooms were all well decorated and had lots of natural light. The breakfasts were absolutely delightful and kept us happy - sometimes until evening - as we explored the surrounding areas. The location is in a country setting, yet not too far from downtown Kilkenny and its pubs, live music, castles and shopping. It is also not far from some "off the beaten path" attractions such as Kells Priory. But our hosts were the major draw: their excellent service, Irish hospitality and attention to the fine details made this a highlight of our trip to Ireland.

I would recommend Newlands Lodge to anyone staying in or around Kilkenny. Mairead and Jimmy are some of the most welcoming, generous and warm people we've ever met. They make you feel at home in every way possible and go out of their way to help make your trip a memorable one: from preparing tasty Irish breakfasts, to helping you with driving directions or giving you interesting facts about Ireland-Jimmy and Mairead are always there to help (they even gave my husband some broth when he came down with a cold).

The rooms are cozy and comfortable (and very clean) as is the rest of the home. Mairead thinks of every detail, from little chocolates on your pillow to a small tea table (laden with tea, milk, a kettle, cookies and small pastries, etc.) in the living room available for anyone at all times-you'll never be in want of anything at Newlands.

If you want to be close to the city and enjoy the Irish countryside and be treated like an honoured guest, Newlands is the only place for you (the Lodge is a 10 minute drive from Kilkenny, Mount-Juliet (championship golf course that is absolutely beautiful) and the ruins of Kells Priory).

My husband and I will definitely be going back to Ireland and no matter what part of the country we visit, we will make sure to stop in at Newlands Lodge.

From now on, I suspect I will be a little spoiled when it comes to B&B’s.

While I was at Newlands Lodge, I felt like I was *family*. Everything was top-notch. The quality of the rooms, the house, the food, the hospitality – all perfect.

It all starts with the owners/hosts, and they deliver. One immediately feels comfortable and welcome. Our room was bright, sunny, large, and comfortable. The house is immaculate. The location is great as well – it makes a good home base for exploring the surrounding area, plus it is close enough to civilization so that food and entertainment are nearby.

In all seriousness, this is the B&B you recommend to your friends and family. I am SO glad we stayed here. Newlands Lodge is what all B&B’s should aspire to.
