Room too hot, not able to adjust temp at all. Wardrobe very small. Bed with no top sheet, didn't realise that this was standard !! Think about it, duvet covers are not changed every time when you stay in a hotel, so who knows who I shared the cover with previously. Room above the smokers area so could not leave window open, booked a superior room, not very superior at all. Iron presser did not work. Asked for an iron to be sent to the room, had to ring a second time for an iron board as well as the person didn't realise that that would be useful too. Bathroom basic. Asked for a tray with a pot of tea and coffee sent up to the room, given the tiniest amount of milk with it. Just small things but they were annoying, we don't get to stay that often in hotels , being parents of young children, so this was disappointing to say the least.

Room Tip: Don't have a room near smokers area, as it got quite smokey and noisy when the window was left o...

Dear Guest

It's a pity you didn't talk to us as we have a 24 hour team available for all such incidents. Duvet covers are always changed, that's one of the attractions of duvets. Our rooms are air-conditioned with individual controls so the temperature is controllable and you needn't open the window. We generally get it right with the amount of milk and you only had to ask to get more, A new ironing unit had been fitted in your room, but there was a connection problem. With built in ironing boards, there would generally be no need to bring a board, however in your room there was no socket adjacent that location, so a board should have been brought with the iron. Sorry about this and I hope that other aspects of your visit to Kilkenny were enjoyable and that you may return and have a pleasant stay.

Warm regards,

Paul

This is the question we asked ourselves when we left the Pembroke after a one-night stay in this lovely town. We were drawn to the hotel, as it had labeled itself a "boutique hotel". There is no standard definition of this term, but we would associate a certain character, individuality or uniqueness with it--which we did not really detect at the Pembroke. With its contemporary decoration and business-like feel, it reminded us of many other hotels we have stayed at around the world over the years. And the breakfast was nothing special either, as highlighted by other reviewers.

To be fair, we did appreciate the very large and clean room and luxurious bathroom. We also thought that the extra cost of a castle-view room was a good decision of ours. And the staff at the reception were helpful as well, with good advice on sightseeing and a great restaurant across the street (Zuni).

We would also recommend Kilkenny as a destination; the castle is truly interesting and nicely restored.

location excellent, parking no issues, staff always pleasant and helpful - needed an umbrella for my group of 3 instead we got 2 for the night on loan! room, large, comfortable and clean. breakfast was the let down, deep fried mushrooms and sausages - a chipper could do this, a hotel i hop for better, rashers over cooked, and french yoplait yogurts??? - in the heart of great irish farming country, this makes no sense to me.....a small touch but support our own. for the price though of €85 my night was great value, albeit with a little tinge of disappointment. would definitely go back.

Dear DCWM3

Your feedback has been very constructive. We normally get good feedback on our breakfast but there is definitely room for improvement which we are currently addressing.

Delighted you enjoyed Kilkenny and the Pembroke Hotel and we all look forward to welcoming you back.

Myself and my Mother celebrated our 30th and 60th birthdays in the Pembroke Hotel. Paul, Edel, Phil and all the staff at the hotel made the organising so easy and couldn't of done enough for us. They were so helpful and anything we asked of them or wanted wasn't any trouble for them. Room was fab, esp with Christmas decorations, bedrooms and breakfast was great too. Bar man working that night was brilliant also. The DJ they had organised for us was so entertaining and everyone danced the whole night.
Thanks to all of ye for making our night one to remember. I would recommend anyone to visit the Pembroke. Its a fine example of a great hotel and fantastic staff.

This is a great base - everything within walking distance - good restaurants, bars, shops and the castle and its lovely grounds. The heating is worked on an individual room basis which makes perfect sense -- I would advise if you are staying in cold weather to phone ahead and ask that the heating in your room is turned on before you arrive as it can be pretty cold until it heats up. A minor hiccup in an otherwise pleasant stay, Staff very friendly and breakfast top notch - for a buffet it was really good. We waited until the last minute to go to breakfast and the hot buffet was still fresh and hot - not always the way in all hotels and the plates were warm - nice touch.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back - not on the street

Dear Sharfar

Thank you for your recent review.

We are very lucky to be situated in the middle of all Kilkennys great attractions.

All rooms are now being manually controlled and pre-heated for guests post and During stays to avoid the sharp temperatures we are getting at the moment. The individually controlled air conditioning units are great for energy efficiency. Thanks again for your constructive feedback and hope to see you back again soon!

I stayed here as a treat for a 2 night break with my sister. We were given an upgraded room with a view of the castle which was great. On arrival part of our package included a light lunch (my only issue with this is that on the phone we were told this would include a starter and a main, but on arrival we were informed it would be a main course only). The food was tasty though. I was disappointed that the dinner menu was the same as the lunch menu, which held only one option for vegetarians. However, the Food and Beverage supervisor, Türker, assured me I could have anything I wanted for dinner and when it arrived it was presented very well and was delicious, as was my sister's meal. The staff dealt with any issue we had promptly and were extremely helpful. Paul (the manager) showed us a fantastic pub (Tynans Bridge House Bar) and even gave us a lift down. As I am recovering from a broken ankle the hotel gave me use of an accessible room for showering, which was most welcome. All in all, the staff at the Pembroke excelled themselves, and the hotel itself is of a very high standard. I will most definitely be making a return visit. :)

Room Tip: We stayed in an upgraded room so I would ask for an upgrade if available and the castle view is grea...
