Bregagh House

This B&B is just across the street from St. Canice's Cathedral (go visit Noel in the round tower if he's there) and just a short walk from the High Street and great pubs. Jimmy greeted us upon arrival and was very helpful with our bags and finding a place to eat. If there was a hairdryer, I didn't find it, and the street was a little noisy at night, but otherwise a pleasant stay.

We were welcomed with tea and coffee and given a rundown, including maps, of what there was to see and do in Kilkenny. Roseanne was very helpful in answering questions and even called for us to check on some closing times for attractions. The Bregagh house is within easy walking distance restaurants, pubs and sights in the city center. The breakfast was traditional Irish fare and very good. Our room was a little cramped, but we were only there one night so not a problem.

This was a lovely clean B&B and the breakfast was delicious. It is in a great location in the centre of location, all the restaurants and shops are at your doorstep. The hosts were friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for one night on our way back up to Dublin. It should be noted that Bregagh House is not a hotel but a B&B (am not sure why its listed under hotels on TripAdvisor...).

The rate we paid was 38 euros pp. Our room was absolutely tiny (there was barely room to move around the bed) but comfortable. The showers are so small that if you knock something down to the shower floor, you have to open the shower door to be able to reach down and get it. There is no A/C so we slept with the window open, but that meant we could hear the pubs located down the street, which partied until the wee hours of the morning.

The plus side to Bregagh is definitely Roseanne. She's so friendly - I could have talked to her all day long. The Irish breakfast was also very tasty.

Bregagh House is located on the outskirts of downtown. We found it easy to walk around downtown from there but it is 10 minute walk to really get to the center of Kilkenny and a further 15 minutes walk to get to the castle.

If you are just looking for a place to rest your head, Bregagh will do. It is definitely no frills, but very comfortable and inexpensive.

This B&B was suggested to me by one of the other top Kilkenny B&Bs that had no rooms available for our stay. Since I was running out of options, I was grateful to find that the Bregagh House had a room available for my fiancé and me for our one night in Kilkenny – and I wouldn’t be surprised if this was due in part to the fact that it is listed on this website for some reason as a hotel/guest house and not a B&B in Kilkenny. I contacted the hostess, Rosanne, by e-mail to let her know we would be arriving by train, and she was kind enough to tell us to call her when we arrived and they would come collect us from the station! This worked out very nicely because it was raining when we first arrived, and I had been slightly unsure of how long the walk from the station to the B&B would take. In addition, we were also driven back to the train station for our train back to Dublin the following morning.
The location turned out to be wonderful; it was basically at the foot of the stairs to St. Canice’s Cathedral and only a few minutes’ walk into the center of medieval Kilkenny. The room was very comfortable and appealing, even if it was somewhat small and it was the only place during our stay that did not have a hot water pot with tea/coffee in the room for guests (they also requested that guests not eat in the rooms). There were cute little chocolates in “thank you” wrappers on top of the folded towels on our bed when we arrived. The full Irish breakfast we had was good, though we were slightly disappointed that we couldn’t have Nutella on our toast because it was way past its expiration date (and looked like it, too!), but we told John, Rosanne’s husband, about it so they could purchase a new jar. We would be happy to stay here again during another visit to Kilkenny.

A money-saving tip during your Kilkenny visit: stop to look at the brochures at the bottom of the main stairs and grab the one containing coupons for discounts on the attractions. We saved 10% on the tickets for our historic walking tour.

Six of us (three couples) stayed one night at the Bregagh House. I had put the wrong date in my room reservation request and only noticed it afterward, but making the change to the date was easy. We found the service to be great and the rooms comfortable and quite clean. The location, near St. Canice's, was wonderful, although any place in Kilkenny is within walking distance of the rest of the town.

The one small gripe was the Irish breakfast wasn't quite as good as in some of the other places we've stayed, but they also offered a continental breakfast, which looked fine. Overall it was a great value.

We stayed 2 nights , the proprietor is a very nice and helpful woman, it was perfectly located in Kilkenny, relatively quiet. Rooms are tiny but clean, the owner was very accomodating, and it has parking, which is necessary.
