Maldron Hotel Limerick

We stayed in this hotel for 1 night as the rugby world cup match was being held in Limerick that night. We arrived in the afternoon and there was plenty of parking in the underground car park, and were then checked in swiftly by a friendly receptionist. The room was spacious and clean, had a double and 2 single beds. There was also facilities for making a hot drink, and iron, TV and a large bathroom with both bath and shower.
We also used the swimming pool which had friendly staff. The water was nice and warm and had a third of the area for swimming only and the rest for general pool usage. The sauna and steam room were small, but people only used them for 5 minutes or so meaning that there wasn't long to wait before they became vacant. They were also at a nice temperature for working up a sweat after a nice swim.
The location is a good way out of the city centre, reception said about €12 in a taxi each way but cannot say as we were in the car. There is a couple of supermarkets very close if you need to bring in some provisions. The location is also opposite a gypsy camp which was ok as there wasn't any noise, plus it's not every day that you see a man walking his horse and a goat on the pavement in Ireland!!
After the match we had a couple of pints in the bar. Although we found the staff ok, we were surprised to hear one member of staff take offence when a big group of people tried to move 2 tables together so they could sit together and went over to tell them off as if it was his own personal kingdom, then the other barman was heard to curse (FFS) when asked by the other to make some sandwiches which the group had purchased, sorry for making you work!!
Next morning we had an excellent breakfast with a great choice of hot and cold food. It was a help yourself buffet with the hot food, and the scrambled egg was cooked to perfection. The orange juice was also nice. On returning to the room I had a nice bath, but wasn't able to drain the water as the plug dial wasn't working. I did try to use a spoon but it wouldn't work. I did apologise to reception so hopefully that problem will have been solved.
In summary, a comfortable stay, nice facilities, good breakfast and we have a few tales to tell!! Positives far outweighed the negatives and we would return.

I booked via a reputable agency, and fully paid for 2 nights B&B (sat, sun). My wife settled our bill on Monday morning, as I had to leave early for a business meeting. In returning back to Dublin we spotted that the hotel had charged us B&B rates, even though we had fully paid. We phoned back and got through some foreign chap. He confirmed we were indeed correct, and said he would issue a refund, and send me a receipt to my email address. Never arrived. A week later I phoned again and got through to the same chap. He said he processed my refund and I advised that I had not received this, nor the confirmation in email. He said he would look in to it. He never came back. So I phoned a 3rd time and got through to someone else. She said she would look in to it, and issue a refund if this did not happen and also send me a confirmation in email. 2 weeks later still no sign of the refund or confirmation.

Absolutely bismal to be frank. I have better things to do with my time than chase a refund on an overcharge that the hotel admits to. We will most certainly not return again.

Staff are very rude especially in the gym. How hard is it to smile? Older lady on the reception was so rude. Everything was an issue with her. Not welcoming at all. Stay away. Changing rooms in the leisure area could do will a big makeover.

For the money I really can't fault it. Very short cab ride from the centre. The rooms were clean and spacious and the reception and bar areas were plesant. For the price of a Travel Lodge you are getting a lot more.

This Hotel is quite nice. We always like to stay on the top floor but in this hotel they allow smoking on the top storey, so we were very disappointed with the stale smokey smell. It lingered throughout our stay, despite leaving the windows open all day and night. The management really do need to go around and smell the rooms themselves, and take an interest in modernising them, as the carpets and curtains really have soaked in the smell. We were also very disappointed with the throw at the bottom of the bed; it had stains on it which were there for a long time by the look of them. They need to be badly washed and they had the smell as well. In my opinion there should be no ashtrays in the bedrooms as this encourages people to smoke. Please remove them, or leave them on the balcony.

The food in the bar was very good, but the same menu each evening. Sandra was very helpful and interactive with her customers. The breakfast was lacking in variety. The hot food was cold each morning. No prunes, and the porridge was watery and cool.

If you need a bus to the City Centre, according to the Receptionist it would take 50 minutes and she advised us to take a taxi, so we drove in.

Otherwise, this hotel has great potential

Room Tip: A room overlooking the Courtyard is advised

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel on our tour of Ireland very nice , the rooms were very spacious and clean with a door opening onto a balcony, a little bit out of town but short drive or cheap taxi fare, the staff were very helpful and the restaurant was very good meals were basic but good value and very good. would certainly recommend.

Must admit I was a bit concerned about going after reading the recent reviews. However, I was more than satisfied with the experience, certainly for the price that i paid. Frankly, the official rates posted on the inside of the room doors were ridiculously unrealistic but if you can get a deal then go ahead and stay there. The room was large, comfortable and, even though it faced the main road, was quiet, enabling me to have a good night's sleep on the three nights that we were there (Thursday - Saturday). The pool was a decent size and the fitness room/gym was well equipped. It also had a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The bar was reasonable for a chain hotel, with a decent musician playing on the Saturday night, though we spent little time there or in the restaurant.

The biggest complaint from other contributors was the location, in a rough estate. I think this has been over stated. I know of the estate in question and agree that it is dubious, but the hotel is on the edge of it and there is no need to go through it on the way to the city centre. If you are still concerned, then a taxi for around 8 Euros each way will by pass that experience! During the day the route is perfectly safe to walk.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the enclosed gardens that are on the rear of the building
