The cathedral is constructed in a fashion that greatly enhances the quality of sound, I am told, I have taken in a number of concerts in here this year, all as part of the City of Culture, and I can attest to that.
The concerts tend to be on Wednesdays at lunchtime, but do vary, if you are a tourist ask a street ambassador before hand (you'll find them all over the city...wearing jackets that say "street ambassadors") these concerts are a real treat, this is irish culture in action, if you are a local it will give you a greater appreciation for the city's oldest building. It is a stunning concert venue in a functioning cathedral...you really need to spend a whole day between here, the Limerick Musuem, Hunt Museum and King Johns Castle. All within a stones throw of each other...take a little break sitting on a bench behind the courthouse (accross from the cathedral)...it gives beautiful views of the River Shannon.
