“Central location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2013 via mobile

Have stayed here twice with no complaints. Fab breakfast and friendly staff. On first visit we booked in too early...staff were very accommodating. Rooms were clean. Enjoyed our first stay two years ago that I returned last year and will def be back. Very reasonable for central location.

The Pier is in a good location in the city centre, but both the hotel and surrounding area could only be described as grim. That being said, don't expect too much given the very cheap rates and you'll be fine - the room and bathroom were adequate if you just need a bed for the night.

We were very pleased to find this hotel which was within walking distance to lots of things in the central city. All staff that we dealt with were excellent in terms of their customer service and desire to help with our requests. We enjoyed our breakfast in the restaurant and feel that for the price this offered very good value for money. The only down side was that the bed was a bit lumpy and uncomfortable.

Great little hotel at excellent value. Very reasonable for a nights stay. Staff very friendly, however when we stayed at the end of June, seemed to be a shortage in staff as receptionist had to work behind bar also!! Breakfast was so enjoyable will definitely be back!

I made my booking on booking.com. Initially I booked room only but when availability came up for b&b for an extra €3 I cancelled the initial booking and rebooked. Arrived after lunch time with my heavily pregnant friend to be told we had no room as I had cancelled my booking and that they were fully booked for the night! I showed both my cancelled booking and confirmed booking to only to be told I was wrong and there was a group booking in so there was no room. Little did she know that a lively gentleman also working there had just told
My pregnant friend that there was loads of rooms as the group had checked out that morning! Turns out that the woman didn't even rad the confirmed booking and just filed the whole lot away. Anyway aside from that the room was now and clean and it's an excellent location. Free parking is a plus however spaces are limited. We were attending a wedding close by so we were happy not to have to trek too far afterwards.

On arrival the lady at the front desk was lovely. Our room smelled of urine, from the uncleaned bathroom - when the staff were advised of this they were very helpful stating they would fix the problem. We went out to collect our car as we originally couldn't access the parking which is ambiguous as to the entry. We went up to our room with 2 large suitcases etc and upon our return we found that our room had been given to someone else - we knew this when we heard voices within our room. So back down the lift to ask what had happened! JOY for a moment when we learned we were given a room with a great view! Even though the corridors smelt of urine! We could see the castle! Everything, infact we had 3 windows. We enjoyed a dinner in the bar which was ok! The bar man was lovely! We couldn't sleep as the mattresses are painful! In the morning we had to call reception to get hot water and the shower has mould on the roof!, this took some time. Breakfast was good, after we went out though to do a bit of shopping on our return we found that we were again locked out of our room! IS THIS AN IRISH FAULTY TOWERS? I suspect so!!! We stayed our second night as booked and again were locked out of our room and found in the morning that there was again no hot water! I suspect most people know how bad the beds are as there were only 3 guests having breakfast, unlike at other hotels we have stayed at where we have had to queue for our table! I suggest management should sleep a night in the beds and then they will know what needs to be done!!!

Room Tip: Good luck getting a bed you can sleep in!!

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are sorry to learn of your difficulties with the room keys and hot water. We operate a very strict policy on security hence why the keys automatically time out after a certain period. In relation to the hot water issue, we have had our maintenance staff investigate this thoroughly and are assured that this will not happen again. We are disappointed to hear of the issue with the beds. We recently purchased these from a well known manufacturer and have taken your comment directly to them for a solution. In the meantime we have replaced the mattresses in the rooms that have been brought to our attention. We are glad to see that you stayed two nights with us and that any issues you had were dealt with expeditiously.

Many Thanks
Kasia

Had a problem finding the parking as we got to a black gate and there was no indication that an intercom existed to open the gate.
Hotel in a good location right on the river - although our room didn't have a view.
Clean, bath and shower, toiletries, lift, tv, tea making, hairdryer. Quite a small room but ok for the price which includes breakfast. Comfortable bed.
Couldn't get wifi in my room but ok in the passage.
