I needed a cheap place to stay and that's what I got that but this place is old, not very clean and very basic. The room was small and dated, the bar downstairs is old fashioned and seems to be a bit of a local joint. My room was at the front of the hotel and I could hear a lot of noise during the night and had a bad sleep. The location is handy, right across from the train station. I wouldn't stay again and should have paid the extra few quid to stay somewhere more comfortable and quiet.

Our first impression wasn't great -- this is definitely a European hotel, not an American one, plus the person who registered us must have had a hard day. But when we got to our room, we liked the big washroom, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were sparkling white. Well, gleaming anyway. The pub downstairs is very big and has good variety on its menu. The whole building has a comfortable feel to it. We liked the breakfast, and the server was a delight to deal with -- poured all the coffee we wanted and wanted to make sure that we were happy. The train/bus station is right across the street, and there are convenience stores and take-out less than a block away. At least 3 Catholic churches are within walking distance, if you go to daily Mass; one (the Dominican) is only a block away. Parking was free and easy to manage, once you got the hang of it: Pick up electronic key from desk, drive car around entire block to gated parkway, park, walk back to front door a few hundred feet again. ( No short-cut through parking lot, you have to walk out and around to hotel again, so not easy if you have multi bags to carry. We didn't.) Though we spent only one night here, I hated to leave this family-run hotel. Oh well. Maybe later this summer. Thank you, Railway!!!

We enjoyed out stay. I later lamented that we could not stop back in and see the people we met there. Food was always spot on. Facilities are aged, no question there. We would stay again. Fiona is the best.

I stayed one night in the Railway hotel and I wouldn't want to stay any longer than that. From the outside the hotel looks quite impressive and the location, across the street from the train and bus station, is ideal. Once you go inside you soon realise this hotel, built in 1871, is in desperate need of updating, the carpets and decor looking as old and worn as the hotel itself. My biggest complaint is that the hotel only seems to turn on the hot water if you ask for it. I had to ask twice for the hot water to be switched on. When it was, the shower was little more than a dribble and the water was only luke warm. The room was small but fine - sheets and bedding were clean. There was no kettle in the room so I couldn't even make a tea or coffee. It was only 30 Euros a night and I know you get what you pay for but surely hot water and a kettle are just basics.

Had lunch here the other day and I regret every moment. The waitress who served us was very rushy even tho there only seemed to be a few locals in the bar area. Her whole attitude was unappealing and it seemed as she just couldn't give a toss. She never came through the meal to see if we were alright or wanted anything else. Food was lovely tho, i had the cod and was very satisfied with my meal.. Bathrooms were a state, I mean who uses bars of soap anymore??? How unhygienic.

Room Tip: Don't bother

nice and friendly, tidy and comfortable room, need to run the hot tap for a bit to warm it up, ( not the end of the world ) the staff very friendly and helpful, you could see the bar had regular customers, as the staff knew them by name, good pint, nice and chilled, breakfast and lunch was lovely,, the chef loves to chat and joke as he serves lunch, ( nice to see ) over all an enjoyable stay, and we will be back again, who ever is running that hotel, we just want to say WELL DONE, it`s like a home away from home,

Room Tip: go with the flow, don't be looking for faults and you will enjoy you stay more
