“Good Hotel/No control over guests”
Reviewed 13 May 2009

Very nice hotel. Check in was great and room was above average. Staff was pleasant and room was very clean. Problem started about 11:30PM after wedding downstairs. Young men and women began running up and down the hall shouting and pounding on doors. After about 2 hours I called the desk and was told they would take care of it. Two hours later problem continued and I called the desk again and was told the problem was with some young people and there was nothing he could do about it. This continued all night and eventually stopped at 0630 with a young man running down the hall shouting it's time to get up. When we went for breakfast there were cigarette butts and trash all over and broken glass at the elevator landing. Morning manager was very embarrassed by the whole thing and as a token of apology she gave us a bottle of wine when we departed. I would stay there again but would call the police if something like that happened again.

I absolutely loved the Strand. Check-in was quick, pleasant and professional (thanks Calvin!) and everything from the beautifully decorated corridor to the bright, airy, spacious and design conscious room was amazing!

The room and en-suite were very clean and modern; there was a huge counter/work desk with a comfortable office chair. The marble bathroom was beautiful and felt very Italian. There was a large, separate bathtub and a beautifully designed shower cubicle. The bath products are a result of the former brand it was under – Hilton. How can you not love luxurious Crabtree & Evelyn products?
The view was lovely from my room (326) – overlooking the castle, river and Limerick mountains.

I never used the leisure centre or visited the restaurant – the bar however, was nice and spacious with attentive staff and good service. Prices were reasonable.

I ordered room service in the morning, and the guy who brought my breakfast up was very nice and polite. Check-out was again quick and professional, and Calvin, the receptionist, remembered me and made me feel very welcome indeed. Gold star!

I didn’t find the location problematic at all, it is just a 10-15 minute walk into the city centre, and the area feels peaceful and nice. Taxis only cost about a fiver, but once you reach Debenham’s, you could really just walk the distance over the bridge.

I will definitely return to the Strand in the future, and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

The place to stay. Friendly and helpful staff. Good Food. Stay in a Suite the view is fabulous.
Avoid Hotels out the Ennis road they are over priced compared to this one.
Only down side is that you have to pay A LOT for internet which is unacceptable in this era and thus it looses a star for value!!!! Parking is 5 euro extra.

This was my first time staying at this relatively new Hotel which used to be a Hilton but glad to see they have not lost any of the standards you would expect from a Hilton if not better.
Situated in a downtown location 30 euros on a cab ride from the shannon airport.
Food was good and reasonable prices entertainmnet in the bar at the weekends will book in here again excellent buffet breakfast and friendly staff.

The Strand hotel was formerly the Hitlon and it is located a two minute walk across the river Shannon from O' Connell Street. Limerick centre is quite small and everything is within walking distance of this hotel, including the Thomond Park Stadium. I stayed here for just one night recently and while the hotel was of decent quality, it was noticable that standards slip when the pressure is on, especially if there is an event on in Thomond Park.

When I arrived, the car park was full and even though a number of guests were trying to park their cars, it took a few complaints at the front desk to sort it. The front desk was chaotic with staff who weren't enitrely sure what they were doing. The young man checking me in had to ask for assistance three times during my check in which was with a prepaid voucher. I considered myself lucky however as the party next to me were being 'facilitated' in the appartments across from the hotel and were not best pleased.

Having said that, the quality of my room rapidly took my mind off the earlier fiasco. The room was beautifully furnished and I don't think I've ever seen so much storage space! The only thing missing from the room was a hairdryer but it contained everything else including complientary tea and coffee making facilities which I find is something of a rarity these days. There was a safe in the room and what joy, an air conditioning unit that actually worked properly! The bathroom was quite large with a seperate tub and shower which again was beautifully furnished and finished to a very high standard.

Given the quality of the room, I felt the price of €90 was great value and I could overlook the hotels short comings and would gladly use the Strand again.

We stayed at the Strand for three nights. There is little that could be criticized. The hotel overlooks the river and has adequate basement parking. The reception is efficient and friendly and the rooms spacious and immaculate. Breakfast is, as is now the norm, buffet style but the selection was excellent and eggs fresh to order, except for the scrambled. We had two conference dinners, one a banquet, for approximately 200 guests and the service and standard of food could not be faulted. Everything arrived on the table on time. Lunch was to the same high standard. The bar staff were friendly and efficient and knew their jobs and waiting time was at a minimum. The pool area was superb with large jacuzzis and a sauna and steam room plus plunge pool. I did not bother with the Fitness suite, but it looked the part! Check out was efficient and I was asked if I wished to settle in sterling or euro, usually I have to make sure of the currency in which I wish to pay. My only negative comment was that the free internet connection on the 6th floor would not allow me into my secure webmail, they did try to fix it and the IT guy lent me his computer to check my mail - what more could one ask. A really enjoyable experience

Stayed in this hotel for one night recently for work and was pleasantly surprise. Staff for the most part were pleasant, although their reception staff could do with a little more training, rolling of eyes is just not acceptable! Bedroom was lovely with a great view of the river and a super balcony. I think however we were upgraded to a Junior Suite so all rooms may not have this. Bathroom was spacious and had a great power shower. Toiletries were good too. There was an excellent selection available for breakfast and the fresh fruit was delicious. The hotel is located just a few mins from the city centre. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
