You can see the Relic of St. Oliver's Head and all the history about this saint.
Beautiful church in the heart of Drogheda.

“Very beautiful with fascinating history”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

This is a very beautiful church both outside and inside. I have been there several times and each time there has been peaceful. One of the most interesting things is the glass cabinet on the left hand side of the alter which contains the head of the famous Oliver Plunkett. There is also other artifacts as well as walls of information and general history. A Drogheda visit wouldn't be complete without a visit to St. Peter's Church.

“A haven of peace in a busy town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

The Church was open when I needed it to be i.e. during the working day. Very peaceful and well worth the time taken. The Church contains the national shrine to St. Oliver Plunkett and the story boards tell you all you need to know.

“Lovely church with 'special' artefacts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

This is a lovely church in the centre of town. We were there about 6pm on a Thursday evening and the whole time we were in there, there wasn't another person in there at all. Only saw the sign saying 'no photographs' on the way out - too late then :)
We called in to see the famous artefacts - specifically Oliver Plunkett's head and the 'piece of the true cross'.
The head is well displayed, though I must say I consider it a bit grisly and not very PC to have the poor man's head in a glass case.
The bit of the cross is confusing - there is actually nothing to see (I presume 'it ' is in the small wall mounted box behind the glass screen?) and it has a 'certificate of authenticity' - yeah right :)
Anyway, I'm sure the believers are impressed, and it IS a lovely church.

“Beautiful!”

Really beautiful old church with great history, gorgeous stained glass panels, Oliver Plunkett's prison door and shrunken head. A must see!
