“All good.....pity about the bathroom..”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

2 adults and 2 kids stayed 20th - 22nd Sept 2013. Although I had seen numerous poor reports on Tripadvisor, I said nothing. Don't knock it till you try it! Hotel is old, but interior clean and staff welcoming. Bedroom good size and clean, comfy beds. Bath was like the one in room 237 Overlook Hotel. Grubby and uninviting. A drop of bleach and a 15min clean would have made all the difference. We had our meals in the bar area. Kids portions were massive and well priced. Meals for the old ones were good also and fairly good value. Swimming pool, tennis courts etc were excellent. Would consider going back however please do something with the bathroom!!!

Bought this deal for ourselves and another couple recently.....As we live in Wicklow it was just a short hop up to Droheda..Arrived friday afternoon, down a long (pot-holed...sorry) tree lined drive ..the girl (pregnant) at reception was very pleasent and helpful, mentioning the dinners and breakfast times, gym etc......
We stayed in the new part serviced by an elevator...while the walk to our rooms seemed long the trip was helped by the stunning view of the gardens and main house/conservatory which houses the bar....
The rooms were spotless, well insulated, bright and airy ,huge bed, period furniture, tv, phone etc.....
Again the view of the garden was very impressive...unlike some hotels where you might have the nice view of a car park.....!!!
Some reviews mentioned the cleanliness....while the hotel could benefit from a freshen-up i wouldnt call it dirty or smelly.....and under the present situation with the holel i found it to be well kept and clean.....each to their own i suppose...
We had no issues with the shower/bathroom.....plenty of towls, soap etc......
We ate in the bar the first night...Garret was the perfect host..friendly and polite without being anal and he looked after us very well.....we had great laugh with him...he's a credit to the hotel....
Two had steaks, a pasta and a veggy option were devoured...clean plates all round, desserts..???..same outcome....excellent ,well priced food......
Looking around, the other people there seemed to enjoy their food too....
The bar area was very comfortable with a lounge area with a TV and really nice staff....
Relaxing nites sleep was had by all , except for a noisy lady in the middle of the night....theres always one..!!!
Breakfast the next morning was a semi-buffet affair with plenty of cereals, juices and fruit on offer...and a choice of anything you wanted really from a cooked menu...excellent again, with friendly efficient staff on hand...no waiting for more tea etc....
A trip to the gym/pool that evening for the men.....lovely pool, sauna and steam room were also in great condition as was the jacuzzi...Clean towels and nice shower area.....very enjoyable experience with, again nice friendly staff.....
Dinner that night was in the restaurant/breakfast room...nice choice of dishes and sizeable portions too....no complaints, except that there was maybe too much food....!
Again the serving staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble....the older lady (soz!) was very friendly and chatty, without being boring............
I know i keep mentioning the staff, but when theyre this good they deserve a mention....its no good only mentioning them when theyre bad............
Overall we had a great weekend and as the title says the best so far.......would be back there in a heartbeat....

I haven't even got to eat breakfast yet and feel compelled to write a terrible review! Cold shower, shower head clogged with mould, mould growing around rim of bath tub. BUT worst of all No mattress protector on any of the beds ... Only ever had this at travelodge!
Cannot recommend this hotel at all. A disappointing end to an otherwise great trip to Ireland.

Was disappointed Upon arrival as hotel looked really unkept, at check in I was told room would be delayed as a staff member had a serious accident. We were given room key about 1 hr later and was upgraded to a suite, lovely I thought until I entered room. The light fittings had so many cobwebs it was easy to see they were there a long time as full of dead flies and insects. Bathroom was dusty and really needed a good clean. Shower head was not working properly and had very little water coming thru it. Towels in bathroom consisted of 1 bath towel and 2 very small hand towels.
I asked at reception for more towels and extra pillows as we only had one each, towels arrived pillows never did even though I ask 3 different times.
Food in the bar was just ok but the drinking glasses were really dirty with lip stick / water marks and milk stain rings.
Breakfast was a disaster, I had to ask for juice glasses, cereal bowls.
Hot breakfast is cooked to order. But gave it amiss after I noticed a couple at another table complain that the food was burnt.
The leisure centre like the hotel needs a massive upgrade and cleaning. Tiles in and around the pool were filthy , the steam room was out if order and there was a nasty smell in the sauna. I left the leisure centre after 5 mins.
There is nothing good I can say about this place- really sorry

I stayed in this hotel while it does need some renovating and brought up to date, we had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay here and would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a break away in Drogheda it's only a 5 min drove from centre of town. The breakfast menu had everything you could want to fill you up on a big day out. The fat food is excellent to. Thanks to Garet the batman who was very helpful and very friendly. Will sta here again

Elaine and i visited the Boyne Valley for an overnight stay after Laytown races 3/9/2013. The location is ideally situated for Drogheda train station (20 min walk) which is only one stop away from Laytown. We arrived at about 1pm to be told by the friendly receptionist that the room would not be available for a couple of hours and to have a drink in the bar. I returned after a pint to find that the receptionist had got in contact with housekeeping and sorted out our room :). The room itself was clean, well presented with a very comfortable bed. The hotel is very old and clean inside but in need of a little tlc. Breakfast was served by very attentive staff who could not do enough for their guests and the overall experience offered tremendous value for money @ £44 for 2 including breakfast. Added bonus was a very late check out of noon :)

We needed one nights accommodation in Drogheda....and I remembered the name of this hotel from many years ago!! I checked out the details on tripadvisor and decided that it would be ideal! We were able to book a room for £45 without breakfast which was really cheap! The hotel was very nice although a little way out of town...The room was comfortable and quiet (even though there were several children staying along the corridor!) It is a very welcoming hotel and has a nice bar......The barman that was serving us was so lovely, chatty and helpful....and very cheerful....! I hope the hotel are grateful to have such a good member of staff (we never got his name, but he was tall with grey hair and very smartly dressed!!) I felt that the rooms needed to be modernised...but obviously that would be a large undertaking and the room prices would have to go up!! This hotel would be a wonderful place to hold a family celebration or Wedding!! I would definately stay here again. There is a car park in front of the hotel and the grounds and gardens are beautiful!!! The hotel is child friendly and family friendly...

Room Tip: I only stayed one night so am unable to advise on which rooms were best! My room was on the ground f...
