“Friendly staff but hotel needs updates!!!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2009

We stayed one night in Drogheda on our way around Ireland and since we have 5 in our family did appreciate the family room which did have one double and 3 singles. However, the hotel reminds you of an old B&B. It has no AC, no lift and we were on the top floor- so lots of stairs with our luggage. We were given a fan which did help with the heat in the room. Bathroom needs some updates as well!! The dining room was depressing where the breakfast was served( which was included in the price of the room) and the food was depressing as well. Also the girl who worked the breakfast area had no personality and barely spoke to us.

Hotel was old fashioned but nice. The leisure facilities were lovely and tennis courts perfect. Had some food in the bar and also breakfast next morning which was lovely. Only complaint i would have is receptionist talked as if she was a snob and was afraid to crack a smile. Not very friendly. So the next day there was a new girl and she was the same. Pity as they are the first point of communication for a lovely hotel. Little bit of people skills would help.

I attended a school fundraiser function in the conference centre here. See attached photographs for the conditions I encountered in the gents bathroom. This is completely unacceptable, and there was no-one around from the hotel staff for me to complain to.

By the end of the night, they had an 'out of order' sign up, but the nearest other loo was a long way away in the main hotel.

This hotel is excellent value. The rooms are very clean & quiet. The Full Irish breakfast is all that you could ask for & sets you up for the day. We ate in the bar on one evening & the food was good but we ate in the restaurant on our 2nd evening & the food was just great, everythig cooked to perfection & The staff were lovely. Location is just outside Drogheda but not far and it is very easy to get to the North of Ireland if you want a good day trip. I cannot understand the bad reviews as this hotel is excelent value for the price charged !

I stayed here for one night with a group of people and i have to say it leaves a lot to be desired. My room number 219 was lovely, clean and tidy and very warm, in fact i had to get up during the night to open the window. The bathroom was spotless with hot water. There was tea / coffee facilities but no buiscuits or bottled water. I was in the new section of the hotel so was quite comfortable. The only complaint i have here was someone hoovering outside my room and 5am.
Now for the down side, my friend stayed in the old part in room 19 and i recommend you dont accept this room if you decide to stay here. The room was absolutly freezing, It was so cold one member had to ring reception for an extra heater. There was no hot water. Loads of copwebs and the carpet was filthy. The taps were leaking and was very hard to use. The room door was not very sturdy, and could easily be pushed open with a shuf. And it rattled in the breeze which was very annoying.
The food was fantastic and very tasty. The manager a big tall middle aged man, could do with smiling a bit instead of walking round with the big sour growl that he did this weekend. So my recommending is insist on a room in the new part of the hotel and avoid the old part of the hotel.

Nice cosy warm hotel. Very friendly staff. Rooms were warm and clean. This is an old hotel that has managed to retain it's character whilst having modernised bedrooms and bathrooms.
Had some bar food. It was adequate for the price. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice. Did not use fitness centre. Enjoyed our stay overall.

Hotel cost 120 euro for two people b&b for one night. On driving down the fabulous entrance to the hotel we expected good things. We were disappointed! Hotel lobby was very nice, good atmosphere, nice music and friendly receptionist. The problems started when we left reception. Hotel was situated over a large area and directions to room were not good. We found the room after about 5-10 mins. Room key was a typical metal room key, not updated to electronic system on our room yet. On entering the room we found it to be old fashioned and badly lit. It looked gloomy and not particulary friendly or comfortable. The bedroom door had a latch that was not closing correctly leaving us feeling unsafe. When i rang reception to inform them of this problem they sent up a waiter who handed us a philips screwdrivers and wrench and were told a handy man would follow up later. This was not the least of problems with this room, the ceiling was marked black in some areas from damp. The bathroom was not of a standard you would expect in a B&B, def not hotel quality. Tv which is advertised as a plus on website, it turned out to be a small portable tv with only about three channels. After relaxing on bed i turned to notice some suspect 'white stains' on the cover. Obviously the bed covers had not been washed or changed since the last occupents of the room. After waiting awhile for handy man and upon noticing the stains on the outside cover of the bed we decided not to pull the covers back to reveal what could be underneath the covers... we hightailed it out of there and booked into a much better superior hotel.......which was clean comfortable and a better price at 110 euro. This hotel shows not to trust a book by its cover, because its grounds are definitely better than the inside!!!

  • Liked — the drive into it, very nice grounds
  • Disliked — when we were handed wrench and screwdriver to wait for handy man and the stains on the bed
