“Wonderful in Westport”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2013

We stopped in Westport, a lovely villiage in County Mayo, while traveling around Ireland and needed accommodations for the evening. An Irish B&B directory had Hazelbrook listed. We called, found they had two rooms available and decided to check it out. We were very pleased we did. The B&B is a lovely home with a well-manicured front yard, loaded with flowers, in an upscale neighborhood. Still walking distance from the center of Westport, but quiet and secluded. The proprietor, John Cafferkey, warmly greeted us at the front door and took us up to check out the rooms. The B&B is much larger than it appears from the road, with 9 rooms available for rent. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable, with nice bathrooms, so we decided to spend the evening there. We went to town for dinner and then came back to the entertainment room where there is cable and we watched a movie before heading to bed. The next morning, John greeted us in the kitchen where he cooked a wonderful breakfast. Try his pancakes -- they are crepe-like and delicious! John did a masterful job of cooking, serving, refilling coffee / tea cups and chatting with those in the kitchen. He has a great personality and wonderful disposition -- a lovely man, and very professional. We enjoyed our time at Hazelbrook and will definitely stop by on our next trip to Ireland. We highly recommend this B&B.

Recommended to us by pub owner. Close to attractive town center, this purpose built B&B offered small but clean rooms at a good price. John, our host, is a fun guy who sings as he does a great breakfast. Odd thing: guests in rear rooms had to go up then down flights of stairs to get to common/dining rooms.

Just back from a weekend in Westport where we stayed at this lovely B&B. Had a great nights sleep in the very comfortable bed! Nothing was too much trouble for John, the owner. He takes the time to learn the name of all of the guests and greets you individually which I thought was a nice touch. We had a delicious breakfast both days and the kitchenette proved very useful to us as we took a flask of hot water/tea with us as we went to watch the Great Fjord swim in Killary Bay. 5 minute walk into town, even in heels! Would definately stay there again.

We stayed here for 6 nights in September and we have to say its one of the nicest b&bs we have stayed in. We had a double room at the front of the house which was large with ensuite. the bed was comfortable and your towels were changed every day if required. The breakfast was lovely and John was always on hand to ask if you would like anything else, during breakfast you could always here John singing some irish songs in the background which we loved.

John was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area for scenic drives and places to go which we really appreciated and done most of these which we enjoyed.

John and Mary made you feel very welcome and did their utmost to please.

We would highly recommend this b&b and if ever we were in this area again we would definitely stay here.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat the The Helm at the harbour has great food. We ate here most nights and we were not disappointed with the service and quality of food.

Clean, comfortable rooms, short walk to town with good food and entertainment---these are a given. The best part of staying at Hazelbrook is the welcoming, fun-loving atmosphere provided by the host. The last place you really want to stay when tired from traveling is something akin to a morgue, or a library. Hazelbrook provides a homey, fun-loving atmosphere replete with an excellent breakfast, and be prepared for a few Irish ditties somewhat muted while the breakfast is being prepared! Should be five stars! ..."when Irish eyes are smilin'....."

Very comfy and clean. I really enjoyed the little kitchen on the ground floor with, tea, coffee and 2 large jars filled with yummy cookies. Very comfy rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Our host was available to answer all our questions and great tips for food in the town. My only complaint would be the strongly scented linens and towels as someone who is sensitive I found the scents pretty overpowering but luckily there was a window to open. Breakfast was fantastic every thing you could ever want. Our host John was quite friendly and open to our every need. Its a easy walk into to town as well. Mat Malloy's pub is not to miss for music. Many great options for food in the charming town.

Terrific place located in Westport....clean, comfortable rooms, nice breakfast and charming owner. The B&B is in their home and close to the town's center, a quick walk. Breakfast is good - hey will fix you many options. The rooms are not large, but clean and efficient. A great value for your money.
