We stayed one night and certainly enjoyed the hospitality. John was very attentive and helpful. The room was not huge but had everything one could ask for. Everything was clean and well taken care of. We felt very comfortable there. If ever in Westport area we would stay there again. Parking was tight but John was the perfect Valet and parked our car for us.

John's obvious enjoyment of people, willingness to provide objective reviews of local services, and concern for our comfort, all were stunning. Location is about 2 minutes easy drive (15 min. walk) from center of town on quiet street. Our en suite looked out to a gloriously well-maintained garden, had plenty of room for 2 people to lounge without being in each others' way, and had cool or warmer temps easily adjusted. Our first B&B experience in Ireland set a very high standard. If this is a 4-star, can NOT imagine what a 5-star is like!

Spotlessly clean.
We had the use of a kitchen where we could help ourselves to tea and biscuits.
Fantastic selection for breakfast including homemade cakes and scones.
Would highly recommend.
A five minute walk to the town and to the greenway cycle track.

I had stayed at Hazelbrook 12 years ago while travelling with my son who had attended University College Cork for a year. I finally got back with my wife and the second stay did not disappoint. John has not lost a bit of energy over the years. He is very attentive to his guests' needs, the place is in great shape and the breakfast is great. He has an endless supply of bread - including one of the best brown breads we had during our two weeks in Ireland - and makes sure you don't leave the table hungry. The location is just a short walk into Westport and a great location for driving to other spots. We went to Achill Island one day and Croagh Patrick and its surrounding sights on another. (I'm blaming the rain and extremely slippery conditions for my second failure to make it to the top.) We had a double room which was very comfortable and had a great view from the front window. Hopefully we'll be back sooner than 12 years to see if John's singing voice is still in fine fettle.

Room Tip: Great views from the rooms in the front of the house.

The twin room we got was somewhat small and the bathroom very small. While we were two adults, one of the beds was shorter than the standard for adults... There was intermittent pipe noise in the room throughout the time we spent there in spite of the fact that the owner said he had someone work on it after we mentioned it, so we had to sleep with earplugs. Wifi didn't reach the room except very intermittently, so we had to go to the landing to use it or to a sitting room on another floor at the other end of the house.

The house is situated in a residential area somewhat removed from the center of Westport, and if it rains it's better to drive to town.

Breakfast was fine.

The host is a fun, congenial, helpful and happy man (who loves singing and does so nicely). He is actually the best feature of his b&b!

John was a most responsive and delightful host. His home is past the Harbour and town but an easy walk to the town. We found the area beautiful and larger than expected with nice walkung/browsing and excellent dinner at John's favorite local place in the Westport Plaza Hotel.
Our room was great and breakfast fine. Made special muffins which were a treat and nice addition to the typical large breakfast.
