Went with family camping.Campground itself was ok but after that it goes downhill fast.Toilet and showers remind me of a boarding school in the 70s,very basic with no maintenance upgrade whatsoever. To see sexual graffitti written on back of toilet door dated 2010 says it all really. If they really valued their customers they would modernise their facilities.Having to bend down while shaving in bathroom is really annoying.Mirrors were too low.Toilets were clean but thats the minimum you would expect. If you are going to charge well for camping then you should provide a modern well equipped site with campers kitchen etc.

And charging customers to walk into town the short way is ridicolous and mean spirited.

This site has the potential to be one of the best if money, not a lot,was spent on it.
The management need to show they value their customers by providing the requisite facilities for campers.

Westport house itself may be fabulous, and there are a variety of other attractions on the grounds, but the campground was the most expensive of about 20 we stayed at in Ireland, yet had no picnic tables or other places to sit for campers. They had a sign for a camp kitchen, but there isn't one -- the clerk told me she didn't think they'd had one for years. The road to the showers was muddy, and all that mud got tracked into the shower units, which were not very well vented. They lock up the dish cleaning facilities at night, so if you want to get an early start (8 in our case) there's no place to wash your breakfast dishes. The free wifi barely worked while hovering outside of reception area, and was useless in the actual campground. In addition, to walk to the town center requires you pay an fee to access the house grounds. The car entry to the park is not at all convenient for pedestrian access to the town. Not worth the money they charge.

Overall very enjoyable experience. Camped with a group of 7 male friends. We were given a camp area all together in the lovely grounds of Westport House. Toilet facilities are basic but the water is nice and hot in the free showers. It's a bit of a walk to the town centre, but coaches are readily available at €2 per head each way. There's a bar that strictly closes at 11pm on the grounds. Nice vibe around the grounds. Would stay here again.
Looks like a great place for families with young kids - a haven of activities for kids, from the very young to teenagers.
It cost us roughly €10 p/p/p/n, so pretty good value.

Stayed here for one night camping. The staff were very helpful and there was lots of information on what to do in and around Westport. It is a 20 minute walk into the town but taxis are readily available. The camping area is very well sheltered from the elements with trees all around and there was a nice atmosphere. Toilet facilities were okay but the showers were very small but would definitely return.

Not the cheapest site we have stayed on, and not the best either, although it's decent enough and in a peaceful location set in parkland. A large toilet block serves the hundred or so pitches, and was well maintained, as were the showers. The pitches are rather on the small side, and it was necessary to walk over pitches to reach the toilet block, which is not ideal. Unlike many sites we stayed at on our tour of Ireland, pitches don't have their own water supply, and the number of water points is rather limited. Rather expensive for what was on offer, but the site was full, so clearly the location is sufficient to offset this - plus the lack of any real alternatives in the local area.

Westport House and various activities are a short walk away, but the charges are extortionate. They even charge you 5 euros to walk past the house to reach the town by the shortest route, without doing anything else - something which the man in the ticket booth referred to rather oddly as a "perk".

The waterfront is interesting, with views to Croagh Patrick. The Towers Bar does good food and has a craft beer on draught in case you can't stand yet another pint of Guinness. Alternatively there are lots of places to eat and drink in the town centre, best reached on foot and without charge via the north entrance.
