Stayed here with husband and young baby on midweek break. We must have been youngest there by 30 years! Many retired couples on midweek deals staying in hotel. First impression is of a modern building modelled on the old style. The lobby is large but decor is terrible. Dark red walls and dark blue carpet and cheapish looking furniture. Check in was efficient. We checked into room early. We had a few bags and buggy but received no offer of help to ship bags up to the room and the receptionist obviously saw us struggling. The room was a deluxe room. It was fine. The advertised "Spectacular views of Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay" More like a view of the car park - not great. The wallpaper was peeling off the wall beside the bed and again the furniture was cheap in the room. The remote control did not work properly for TV. The hot tap in sink did not work properly either. There as DVD player in room. Spa was nice - pool is vitality pool and 2 degrees cooler than usual leisure centre pool. Had a nice treatment and relaxation area was nice. Route down to spa is cool. The gym is tiny and there are no weights or resistance equipment and no natural light. Dinner in La Fougere was delicious. . Service was good. Breakfast was ok. Nice views of Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick from restaurant. Brehon bar is huge cavernous place. There is a drawing room the lounge in adjacent to reception but it is cool as wheelchair /buggy access is thru it. Overall place was fine. Seems like bit of a wedding factory and perhaps the rooms are suffering a bit and need a bit of TLC. Decor not my cup of tea. 15 min walk to the Octagon in Westport. BTW good recommendation for place to eat in town - the pantry and corkscrew. We ate lunch and dinner there and it was fab.. In fact it was highlight of our trip
