The house are gardens are beautiful and steeped in history, a very enjoyable place to stroll around. Children are welcome but you do need to be careful with very young children because of how old the place is and it has a lot of steps so you cannot take a buggy round the house itself.

An awesome historic building in a beautiful and tranquil setting. Greeted by Maureen, (third day on the job), who was knowledgeable and friendly. No tour guides, so you can stroll ar your own pace, furniture is magnificent from dining tables, four poster beds, sideboards, to settles, chairs and wardrobes. Informative exhibitions, displays and curios to better understand the history of house and family. Modern family photos and ancestoral paintings sit happily side by side. The parquet flooring is jaw droppingly beautiful, such craftsmanship! As is a wooden inlaid staircase. Marble staircase, chandeliers - beautiful. Such a shame there are parts in need of repair, leak damage to plaster but I know this place is a real money pit. I hope the new owners will do it justice.

From the Clew Bay Hotel my walk to Westport House and Gardens was about 15 minutes. Once there, you can tour the house, which I didn't do, but did take a riverside walk, and also from Westport House, one can walk along a pathway through an enchanting wooded area that takes you to Westport Quay, a small port, no longer used for commercial shipping, now with many pubs and restaurants and places to stay.

House is very nice to look at but wasn't open for us to go inside. The grounds are beautiful. Lovely lake and all kept in exceptional condition.

Dear Janice S,

Thank you for leaving your kind review.

It's a shame the house wasn't opened when you were on your visit but it's a good excuse to come back again!

The grounds are beautiful and will only get better over the next few years.

Kind regards,

Liz
