Just back from westport and the Plaza ticked al the boxes for service, good food, great rooms and. Leisure facilities. we paid the extra for the gold experiemce and it was certainly worth it. Staff were always helpfull and the service was the best we have seen in any hotel we have stayed in in Ireland. Thanks for a great break cannot wait to return.

Based on Trip Advisor reports we booked a 3 night midweek break and asked for a gold room. Prior to booking we noticed some guests complained about stag/hen parties at weekends and we asked for a quiet room - we were not disappointed - we probably had the best 3 nights sleep in any hotel.
From check in to departure we had absolutely no complaints. All the staff were excellent and meals in the Dining Room were good but not outstanding but again based on the deal we had we felt we had received good value.
We used the swimming pool twice and there was plenty of room. The only downside was the thermal spa - a couple of showers were not working and really we would not like to have paid extra for this facility.
The location was first class and car parking was not a problem.
Will definitely return DV.

Room Tip: We paid extra for a gold room and it was worth it for sleep quality.

Do you know what, you should never judge a book by its cover, as the saying goes......and this hotel is one of those ....the outside really let's this hotel down, it's grotty, needs a paint and the nightclub beside does not help ....once in the hotel, totally different ...lovely , bright, nice staff, spacious room, jacuzzi bath, balcony..spa, pool. Everything you would need. Really enjoyed my stay..

Lovely Spacious Room - we had room 408 there was plenty of space between the furniture and the end of the beds (6 or 7 feet) which meant that my husband could turn his power wheelchair easily within the room without us having to move the furniture out of the way or having to remove his footrests. This was good as a lack of turning space can be common problem even in modern hotels. This room had a king size bed and a single bed, couch, armchair and coffee table as well as a desk, tea/coffee/minibar station and open and closed wardrobe space and still had the free floor space. There was about 2 foot between the single bed and the king bed and about 3 foot between the king bed and the window - we did have to move the couch up about 3 or 4 inches so that his chair could turn easily around the end of the bed, There was power sockets over the desk and also over the bedside locker at a height that was easily accessible, the air conditioning control and the power card slot were also at an accessible height. The couch blocked the access to the window but as the room faced the street there wasn't exactly a scenic view unless you get a thrill from looking at Dunnes Stores! The Wetroom was equally spacious with a level access shower, the shower chair provided was the basic type found in most hotels with no side supports. The sink was at a lower than standard height making it more accessible but it was set in a marble stand so you wouldn't get a wheelchair right in close to it. There was grab rails on the walls and drop down rails either side of the toilet, there was plenty of space for someone transferring from their chair to the toilet with their chair on the right and the toilet to the left and there was enough space for an assistant to stand between the toilet and wall on the other side, but the corner of the sink unit would make it difficult for the person using the wheelchair to do get the access in order to do a left to right transfer and I don't think there was quite enough space on that side anyhow. There was good turning space as well between the shower toilet and sink. Basically in both the room and the wetroom it wasn't necessary for my husband to have to reverse out because of insufficient turning space and in both cases you would probably have enough space to use a hoist aswell. The bed was very comfortable and the base was a raised base on wheels. The hotel has a roof garden which can be viewed from the hallway but the doors accessing it have a high lip so access wouldn't be easy. The hotel guide says the leisure centre is wheelchair accessible but when we enquired there is no pool hoist, but there is a ramp up the jacuzzi if someone has sufficient mobility to be able to use it. There is also a gym and steam room but we didn't look at these. The hotel has a spa and the spa receptionist told us that the beds in the treatment rooms can be highered and lowered so availing of the spa treatments is an option although she didn't think the thermal suite would work for my husband - we didn't get an opportunity to actually try these but intend to stay in the hotel again so can review these facilities properly then. Overall the hotel is very accessible, the staff are friendly while being professional, the food was good quality with plenty of choice in both the restaurant and the bar. There was a good few disabled parking spaces although these were taken by locals (without badges) going to the leisure centre particularly during the afternoon and early evening.

When booking I asked about weddings- since I generally choose not to stay in hotels hosting a wedding or party. I was told that I could get a quiet room and that I would not be affected by a wedding at the hotel that shares its grounds- and this was confirmed via email. When we arrived there was a wedding in full swing and they had allowed the guests to fully occupy the Plaza's parking. So nowhere to leave our car and it took a half hour to sort something out. We felt this was unsatisfactory, albeit that some very helpful staff members were doing their best to help.

We had a great room, and in truth you could hardly hear the wedding celebrations next door. Nevertheless , personally I would avoid this hotel when there were celebrations planned next door.

We ate in the Merlot restaurant for two dinners and two breakfasts. It was OK, but the food here is satisfactory rather than exceptional.

Room Tip: If staying at a weekend be sure to ask for a room away from wedding noise from the sister hotel next door.
