“Unreliable, unfriendly staff, unpleasant stay!”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Having planned a family reunion for over a year with family flying from america to come to it, we were told the day before we arrived via email that the booking was no longer valid despite paying a £300 deposit for the rooms months in advance. The lady in charge had very little remorse for causing the family so much distress and seemed to have very little business acumen or personality for this type of job. After much distress and looking for alternative accommodation hours before we were due to arrive, we managed to get an apology from the lady who cancelled the other bokings for us eventually.

I wouldnt recommend this place in the slightest and our reunion was ruined by this panic and mess up. The breakfast was very basic (cooked sausages in the fridge from the night before) and staff were so unfriendly. Would be ideal for hens and stags who dont care about anything but a place to lie their heads. The only thing that sells this place is its location.

We stayed two nights in Knockranny lodge and I will definitely stay there again. Our room was very elegant with lots of space, tv, ironing facities, tea/ coffee making etc. included. We slept very well as it was comfortable and quiet.
Breakfast was very tasty and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The scenery in the area is amazing. We had an incredible view of Croagh Patrick from our room which also over looked the large tennis court. The tennis court is free to use and equipment is provided too! Drummindoo equestrian centre is a about 10-15 minutes walk up the road from the lodge. We enjoyed a relaxing pony ride through a little forest near the lodge.
The town of Westport is only 5-10 minutes walk away which was great because we didn't need to take a taxi anywhere. There are lots of nice little bars and restaurants in the town, I would recommend Bella Vita and the Castle Court for dinner as they were exceptional. The Castle Court is great for a night out, the music is brilliant and we had lots of fun there.
In all, our experience in Knockranny Lodge was very pleasant and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice break from the city.

Room Tip: The top floor has a beautiful view

I stayed here for one night with a friend and though I didn't spend much time in it, I found it a very good B&B. The twin room was very big with two twin beds, it had more the feel of a hotel room but with a little character. The bathroom was also noticebly large. Both bedroom and bathroom were very clean.

The breakfast was reasonably good though with a somewhat limited selection. There was ample parking on site and the centre of town is a 5 to 10 minute walk. The B&B itself is located in a quiet area and the 45km Greenway walking/cycling track pretty much runs past the door making it an excellent base for exploring the dramatic Mayo scenery.

Compared to some B&Bs I've been in this year I consider this one of the better value, better kept ones.

Stayed for 2 nights in July, reasonable priced, convenient to Westport, Croagh Patrick and the Green Way cycle. Bedrooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly. The only complaint was I thought the breakfasts were served too late in the mornings for early risers, eight thirty weekdays and nine am week-ends. The service for the breakfasts was very slow both mornings, but the food was excellent when it finally arrived. I would stay again and recommend it to my friends.

Great place, a short walk from the centre of Westport, (although it's a steep climb back from town if you are infirm). Very friendly staff and great food. Spacious well appointed bedroom, huge lounge with 40" Sky TV. Use of tennis court in grounds of owner's home opposite the Lodge. Discount for Spa and evening meals at nearby 4*hotel.
A god base from which to explore this lovely area of Ireland

We stayed 2 nights in Knockranny Lodge and enjoyed exceptional hospitality from young Manager Diane and Peter who are extremely welcoming, efficient and accommodating.
Good quality sleep and breakfast. Tennis court free to use by lodge guest is super added value.
Will surely go back and recommend for both holiday and business travel.
