We stayed here recently for 3nights for a wedding. It is located just outside Monaghan town and the size of the cottage is very deceiving as it is so much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. The owner, Bernadette, was on hand to meet us and was very welcoming and accommodating. The cottage was lovely and warm all during our stay and provides all the necessary facilities. There is plenty of parking outside and each room is exceptionally spacious. The kitchen even had a few of the essentials which was great! The house is spotless throughout and all eight of us did not have one complaint! All heat and hot water was included in the rental price which is fantastic also. All in all, we all had a fabulous stay in this little gem so I would highly recommend it and hope to return next time I am visiting Monaghan!
We were part of a group orienteering in Rossmore Park, which is a beautiful forest park located just outside Monaghan town. One of the group recommended Dillon's Cottage as she had stayed there before and liked it. She wasn't wrong. The cottage is airy and spacious and is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. The owner, Bernadette, was on hand to meet us and was very welcoming. We arrived late on a cold winter's night and she had had the heat on for us for a few hours which was a lovely touch. The cottage was toastily warm all during our stay. There is plenty of parking outside the front door at the top of the drive and a lovely view of a drumlin or rolling hill from the back of the house. The entrance hall is large and impressive with a visitor book in which all previous guests seemed pleased with their stays. There are four good-sized bedrooms, two upstairs and two downstairs, and two well-appointed bathrooms plus an en-suite toilet off the master bedroom. The kitchen was stocked with every implement we could need and the utility room contained a freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. There's a nice arrangement of sofas and chairs in the living area and all eight of us were accommodated easily there. The house is spotless throughout with crisp white linen and soft towels in abundance. All heat and hot water was included in the rental price which is a nice touch. In fact, Bernadette even allowed us to extend our stay so that we could come back after the orienteering competition and shower before returning home which made a big difference to our enjoyment of the event. All in all, we had a fabulous stay in this much under-appreciated but beautiful corner of Ireland. Incidentally, drive carefully around here as there's a herd of deer in the locality who can run out in front of cars at night. I came across four deer on the road but was driving slowly so it was fine. When I asked my children how many stars to give Dillon's Cottage, they immediately insisted upon 5 and we all agree on that.
