On our way to Athlone for a wedding we stopped off at the Tullamore DEW visitor centre, as a treat for my husband. While waiting for the tour we had a pot of tea and scones in the cafe bar. It was a very interesting spot, toilets were very good and the decor was in keeping with the place. We were the only two on the tour so we had a really great personal tour of the distillery and the whiskey making process. The young lady was very well informed and really nice, not minding interuptions and said to ask any questions we wanted. There were films and hands on parts too. To end it all we had a very relaxed whiskey-tasting session, being told all about the various whiskeys we tried. A wonderful start to our weekend away.

Had a tour of the Tullamore Dew centre yesterday - what an interesting place. Our guide, Ita, was fab, and promised us that she would show us how to drink Whiskey at the end of the tour. Fabulous building which takes you through the process and the history of distilling the whiskey. A definite 'must visit' if you're in this area.

This is a great little tour. If you've any interest in whiskey you'll enjoy it and of course the tasting at the end of the tour. I've no interest in whiskey but still enjoyed it. The cafe is lovely and a good spot for lunch in the town.

So glad to see this beautiful building on the canal being preserved and put to excellent use. The staff were very friendly, especially in the refreshment area. The tour was informative and I liked the way audiovisual was incorporated into the guided tour. However, it was a little sedate and lacking in 'oomph' compared to other distilleries/breweries I've visited here and abroad. I found my mind drifting off at times. The museum could do with just a tiny little injection of drama (movement/noise/distinctive smells) to give it the edge. That is of course, just my personal view. I'm sorry to say I preferred Lockes distillery, but still I enjoyed it. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in the midlands.
