“Lovely staff - pity about the food and noise”
Reviewed 1 July 2012

stayed in this hotel for a weekend break - the staff are very helpful, but that is where the good news it ends. Food is way overpriced and terrible, very dated hotel and could do with updating. Ideal if you need to catch an early train otherwise avoid. Overpriced for what it is.

Room Tip: go for a room at the end of the corridor - avoid room near lift.

We walked into the room and was greeted by a very unpleasant, musty smell. The room was freezing and when we went to reception to ask for heating we were told it was summer so they don't turn the heating on. they didn't give us extra blankets or anything. the heating was turned on for about an hour and them turned off again.
we went downstairs for food. we were then told we could choose from a selection of pre-prepared sandwiches that had been sat there for an hour and a half. I asked if we could get some sandwiches freshly prepared. the answer was no even though a chef was standing right next to us with nothing to do.
not a very enjoyable experience!

This is a very good three star hotel, which has very helpful staff, who couldnt do enough for you,the rooms very good size and very clean and the breakfast was more than enough. With just a short walk to the town very well placed. The only down side was how tired and dirty the health sweet was,put it right and you get ten out of ten from us

We had come to the Best Western Sligo on a special package of 2 nights bed & breakfast with 1 dinner.

Breakfast was good. It's all laid out buffet style and so you help yourself. You have to give your room number when you enter the breakfast area. Hot Food consisted of Fried Eggs, Scrambled Eggs, Sausages, Rashers, White and Black Pudding and cooked Tomatoes. There was a selection of cereals, some really nice Pastries, Fruit and Yogurt with several juices (Apple, Pineapple, Orange, Cranberry and Water) - Tea and Coffee was also self service. The toast section was also over beside the Tea and Coffee. You had a selection of white and brown pan bread and wholemeal brown bread.

Dinner simply just wasn't good. Our starters were ok, main was a disaster and dessert was not good for me but good for the others in our party. We'd definitely not go for the 2 BBD option again, probably just 2BB.

The hotel itself is situated right beside the train station. This was great for us as we had decided to travel down by train. You literally step off the train, out of the station and the hotel is right there. Use the side entrance as it's much quicker than walking around the front of the hotel. It's a budget hotel but it's a good budget hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Especially Anya on reception who was fantastic at her job. On the day we checked out I sat in the foyer area for a while and had a chance to see Anya in full flight. She was so friendly to everyone and remembered little things about people when they got back from wherever they'd been. I hope the hotel recognises their Staff and in particular Anya.

Noisy. People have already mentioned this but you tend to hear everything in the rooms at night. If you are a light sleeper, bring some ear plugs. Unfortunately our rooms were beside a fire door that just kept banging most of the night. I think the hotel should invest in some soft close doors!

Wi-fi: As has been said, Wi-fi is not widely available in the hotel. In fairness, we were told it would only work in the foyer area but it actually worked ok in our rooms. We were 546 and 545. It was strongest in room 546.

All in all I'd rate this hotel as Very Good for a budget hotel but had we paid more for our rooms/dinner perhaps it would have been a lower score for me.
