“Pleasant enough, quite functional”
Reviewed 13 May 2010

Fine enough for one night. Ended up here as other hotels were full. Checking in staff were pleasant and helpful, once they dealt with us, but we were kept waiting at check in whilst one member of staff was tied up with a demanding guest and the other was ignoring the increasing queue of guests whilst fussing about with paperwork - only eventually deciding that dealing with guests was probably more important - you get the picture.

The bar/restaurant seemed rather empty so we ate out elsewhere. Room was fine - top floor, nice view, and quiet. Free but internet time limited to 20 minutes.

Just spent 3 days at this hotel. The staff are really helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel room was very clean and roomy. The food was great

My first impressions of this hotel was that it was a friendly place, the rooms were spacious and clean and we checked in without any problems.
However we were rudely interupted by hotel staff barging into our room in the early hours of the morning more than once and also being sworn at by the rude security.
Would not recommend to younger guests as you are treated like children.

Was happy to arrive hassle free at the hotel reception staff were helpful, room was clean and spacious. Good show.

The main problem I found with this hotel were the rude, violent night staff. On our first night we were woken up at 5am by a banging at our door, before we went to answer it a man burst in claiming there was a fire in our room. On further inspection no fire.... so we went back to sleep. Five minutes later BANG BANG BANG "are you sure there's no fire in your room?" the man then continued to look behind the tv..... behind the radiator...... and under the bed! None of us had been smoking or had any clothes on top of radiators, nothing!
Then on our second night we were enjoying a cup of tea and scones late at night we were very quiet causing no harm we simply asked a friend of ours from Sligo up to our room for a cuppa. I personally was then sworn at by a member of the Sligo city hotels staff who then told my friend to "get the [--] out" for no reason. Had we known about the no residents in room policy we wouldn't have invited our friend up to the room so this whole swearing shouting at us was really uncalled for!

Our couple of nights at the Sligo City hotel were upsetting and stressful due to staff

Stayed here for the second time, the location couldn't be better, the rooms were lovely, the staff were very helpful and friendly. Everything was good with the hotel, the hotel bar was very quiet with very few about but this wasnt a problem as there was entertainment quite near. The breakfast was good but unfortunately we decided to have an evening meal, we thought it strange when we went in first for our meal as we were the only two in the resturant . We ordered two 12oz steaks thinking possibly we wouldnt finish them, our two steaks weren't 12oz together, thin steaks which were quite burnt. The potatoes appeared to have been reheated maybe potatoes that were left from lunch time. What a let down if you got the same dinner in your own house you would complain not mind having to pay for it.

We stumbled upon the Sligo City Hotel while wandering across Northwest Ireland. The desk clerk was very helpful, taking us up to see the room before we made up our minds. The room was a reasonably sized double, with a generously sized bathroom. Our room overlooked the roofs to the north of the hotel. The clock tower faced the South side of the building, mentioned in other reviews, and wasn't a factor. The location was good, in central Sligo, for walking and exploring the city. The off season rate of 79Euro was pretty reasonable for what we received.

This break away was a great success - 7 family members getting together for the weekend and we will have to say that our hotel and the staff in the hotel made our weekend. We booked in on Friday night and from the minute we entered the hotel we were greeted with a warm and friendly service, the receptionist could not have been any more helpful, even on the Saturday - the receptionists made time to chat with us and helped us with any queries. The bar staff were excellent and the food was delicious! The Hotel is right in the heart of Sligo - walking distance to the shops, even though some went madder than others in this respect! Our weekend was a great weekend of laughter and craic.
For the family members who where unable to come along this weekend - we are planning a return trip, so don't worry.
For those who were there family (and staff) - I think that a fair and overall comment would have to be – “Everything was laid out beautifully for the teddy bears picnic."
