Open from Easter to October, Carrowmore offers a great insight to the lives of the Neolithic people who lived in the area, 5500 years ago. There is a visitor reception area, interpretive centre and toilets.
Free parking and a small admission fee. The visitor then has the choice of a guided tour in English which takes about an hour with an experienced guide. If you wish to go on your own a self-guided leaflet can be 'hired' for 3 Euro's and it is provided in 18 different languages. There are approximately 28 monuments, some on private land and in varying degrees of preservation. Some look as if they were only just built, others are a few stones lying scattered around.
This is a great way to see some of the really impressive Sligo landscape.
