“Passage tombs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

This is one of those places that although difficult to get to, what you get at the end is worth it. The views alone are mind blowing and trying to find all 14 Cairns scattered about is fascinating. A good pair of walking shoes recommended

“Persevere to Get to the Top.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

We turned back on our first visit because the weather turned grim but we're glad to have returned the next day, when it was brighter, because the views from the top are simply stunning. The last bit of the climb is rough but just take it slow and easy, there's plenty of "old timers" who make it to the summit! The huge cairn is a haunting site and the panoramic vistas all around, looking out over several counties are simply not to be missed.

Makes you feel at one with nature and all the people who have come before us. Amazing to think how people managed to reach here thousands of years ago.

“Into the Liminal Zone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2014

Virtual-reality tour here: http://www.voicesfromthedawn.com/carrowkeel/
A visit to Carrowkeel is more than a jaunt up into the mountains on an unpaved road, it is a privileged entry to a hidden realm, a limnal passage into a remote past. I've been there a half-dozen times over the past 30 years, and it never fails to amaze. you can spend a half-hour, or you can spend a time trekking to the less-visited cairns.

“Worth the trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

Out of the way, hard to find, good hike. If you're up for an adventure then this is worth the trip. Chances are there won't be anyone around and you are free to explore inside the many tombs.
