Great spot just outside the town. The big shame about this location is the fact that there is a fantastic Palladian Mansion going to rack and ruin in the vacinity!!

The wood itself is wonderful and peaceful. It is a well used amenity in Sligo and well tended to so clean. The swans and ducks there offer more than your average welcomming committee. The views over the lake are stunning!! the walks are well posted BUT the underfoot terrain is rough enough in places and it is certainly not suitable for buggies or persons with limited mobility in places. THE GOOD NEWS is that there ARE paths throughout the wood that are fully accessible. Especially stunning on a crisp Autumn day.

A great venue for a short walk next to Lough Gill. There are some marked trails that wend through the woods. The marking could be better, but if you just keep walking they all loop back to the car park anyway. Good views across to Slish Wood and the islands.

I have been visiting Hazelwood or Half Moon Bay as its also known since I was a child. It is a lovely scenic area with a beautiful walk through the woods and a lovely spot for a picnic after the walk. Beautiful in good weather.

When I was little we used to visit this place, it is a magical wood which will excite the imagination of adults and children alike. A little way outside of Sligo but well worth a visit.
