Great walks, fantastic beaches, brilliant pubs, ace surfing (if that sort of thing tickles your fancy) all a stones throw from your pitch, In fact you are almost literally pitched up in the dunes.

There are very clean toilets and showers on the site (so clean they are almost worth the €1.50 cost). Electricity supply is fine although there are no individual RCD's on the posts but I assume we were pulling over 10 amps with the heater / telly and fridge running and we had no problems. The pitches are well spaced, water posts are plenty and the site is well lit and feels secure with a fenced in high quality playground for the kids. You are free to have fun but we have never had problems with noise at nights or raucous guests here.

The only downside is that they don't take bookings, if you have a long drive as we do then think hard before setting off there on a bank holiday weekend or during peak season unless you can arrive very early or don't mind setting off to look for another site if you get turned away. The management are very good and helpful and will give you a idea if they are filling up over the phone but it is first come first serve and this site is popular with touring groups of camper vans. If a few groups of 3 or 4 camper vans turn up the park fills up very quickly.

All in all, despite the booking issue, I cannot think of a better situated and layed out site in Ireland. I know some of the caravan club brigade who like neat lines of numbered pitches supervised with an almost military zest for spoiling your fun many not like this place but It is our favourite by a long straw and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Camped for two nights here in July, great facilities, beautiful beach, friendly workers, went for a swim but later found out it's got dangerous currents, so best avoided, but there are swimming beaches close by. lovely pubs, great craic and good food,

We stayed here in early September for two nights at the end of a week and a half camping trip in the West. From the 3 sites we stayed in Strandhill was by far the best one.

We got a lovely welcome and the facilities were brilliant, so clean and well managed. You do have to pay €1.50 for a shower but it is totally worth it for the quality of the shower. We loved the fact that you needed a fob to access both the toilets and showers as this meant that only people using the campsite had access and that they were always kept extremely clean.

The location is perfect, literally a few steps from the beach and couple of pubs and cafes.

It was the more expensive of the three we stayed in, but in my opinion the best and we can't wait to go back.

We had a great couple of days. A few of us met up with campers and tents. The site is great and very clean and tidy. Right beside the beach so the surf was very close.Nice roomy pitch too. Views of the mountain are exceptional. Stranhill was buzzing, the good weather helped. Will be back soon.

This park has not been upgraded for about 30 years and is in urgent need of an overhaul. The toilet and shower block is antiquated. The electricity suppy to caravans is not sufficient and the electric regularly "trips off". There is no direct water connection or outlets for individual caravans and it is very much like camping in the wild. It certainly is not value for money. The main redeeming feature is the close proximity to Strandhill village and the Strand bar. A 2 star rating is all that it deserves

This will always be our favourite camping park in Ireland having discovered it by chance a few years ago. The village of Strandhill itself has everything one could possibly want and it never fails to please. It has the best of decent dining places to suit every pocket, surfing, beach and mountain walks, seaweed baths and cycling tracks. Watching the surfers from the promenade is always exciting at any time of the day depending on the surf.
On the camping site itself Tom and Neal are very professional and always helpful no matter what the query might be. Tom is regularly to be seen walking about at a fast pace checking that everything is up to the usual good standard.
One really has to stay on this site to discover the secret for themselves. Don't tell too many though please!!

Stopped by to visit some friends who were staying in this park on Saturday last 20/7/13, We were told by an elderly member of staff who was working in reception that she would not let us through the barrier and if our friends wanted visitors then they would have to look after us themselves and come up to the barrier and let us in, she then told us to move our car as we were blocking the entrance, totally gobsmacked by her attitude, this person should not have been a 'front of house' member of staff and certainly should not be dealing with people. My advice is go somewhere else where your custom and money is appreciated.
