“Fabulous Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 October 2013

My friend and I arrived at the Glasshouse around 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon, I must admit I was a bit wary of the car park, having read some of the comments on here. I found the car park extremely easy to find, thanks to several brown information signs around the city loop. The car park was well lit and there was plenty of spaces - it is also complimentary for guests in the hotel.

Check in was easy and fast, we found our room easily. My word - it was amazing. A word of caution - if you do not like modern art, bright colours, and big windows, this is not the hotel for you. We loved the bright green colours in the room, the floor to ceiling windows were amazing, the beds comfortable, the toiletries in the bathroom were of a very high standard, the mineral water was a lovely touch..the bathrobes were designed for folks a lot smaller than us but that was not a problem.

I cannot fault this hotel, we had dinner on the first evening and although the restaurant menu was lovley, we both wanted chicken maryland which was on the bar menu. The Chicken Maryland was delivered with a smile and WOW, it was amazing. The staff were polite, professional and nothing was too much trouble for them.

The View Bar, which we discovered on the morning we were leaving was a fabulous place to sit over a coffee and watch the world go by. I loved the rich purples of the upholstry. The fact that we were the only 2 people in it was fantastic.

I cannot thank the staff of the hotel enough for the fnatastic service which we received for our stay and I would heartily recommend this hotel to anyone.

I cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: 426 is on the corner of the 4th floor - fabulous!

We went to Sligo on a whim, just to see a bit more of the country before we headed back down toward Dublin. Both the city and the hotel were more than we could have hoped for - The Glasshouse was fun and swanky, but also comfortable, clean and reasonably priced. Our room had a balcony overlooking the canal, which gave us a lovely view of both the city and the hills beyond. Other than a lack of air conditioning (which who knew we would need in the north of Ireland in late September!?), the room had all the amenities we could wish and gave us a great place to re-charge on arrival and a great central location to explore all the pubs we wanted to visit! Also every room has its own wifi router: GENIUS. We had a great time!

Ideal location next to the river which allows residents to walk around the town. Hotel was busy and lively. Rooms were clean and fairly large only problem was our room was equipped for wheelchair use which meant sink in bathroom was very low. Breakfast was self service but good. Would definitely stay here again

This hotel does live up to its reputation. Its reasonably priced, in a fab location in the heart of Sligo, it offers nice bar facilities and the staff were great. The only disappointment was the limited TV facilities, and no Pay Movies, they claim to provide free movies however mosty are documentaries or movies you would not really be interetsed in. As a solo traveller I do rely on in room entertainment some nights and am always happy to pay extra for good movies, however the cinema is only 5 minutes away, so I am being fussy. The carpark can be tricky for the less than brave driver but overall it was a very enjoyable experience and I would stay there again.

We booked this last minute driving down and were still in awe of the unique Benbulbin. Little did we know we would have a beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the Garavogue River and there in the background Benbulbin. From our balcony we could look down on the sculpture of James Joyce and the lovely town. The service was great and though we did not eat there, we sat on the second floor with a nightcap and the moon rising over the town. We were thrilled with our last minute booking and there was parking right underneath the hotel! It was a very easy in and out of Sligo and I would definitely go back there.

Our experience at the Glasshouse from September 23rd to September 27th (room 423) overall was very positive. The hotel is centrally located, making it an easy walk to many attractions. The view from our room was spectacular, overlooking the Garavogue River where the swans feed and swim. What a sight!

The room was clean and spacious but the storage was limited (no drawers). Facecloths and toiletries were provided in the bathrooms. I mention facecloths, because at our previous hotel you had to request them at the reception. We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary housecoats and slippers behind the bathroom door although we did not avail ourselves of these amenities. Wi-Fi reception in our room was excellent. The in-room safe, however, is located in a cupboard at floor level making it very difficult to access and use, especially for us older folks.

As part of our stay, a full Irish breakfast was included, which consisted of a choice of scrambled or fried eggs, pork sausages, black pudding, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns, ham and toast served buffet style. There were other choices such as fruits, cheeses, yogurt, cereals and pots of tea or coffee.

The menu at the Kitchen (Glasshouse) was varied. The servers were efficient, fast, courteous and very friendly. We were not disappointed.

The hotel staff overall were welcoming, friendly and courteous.

Except for the safe issue, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the Garavogue River.

A very interesting hotel with a view over the river. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The decor is modern art and somewhat edgy ~ not to my person taste at all, but I suppose it would appeal to others. The hallway carpeting was quite interesting and I imagine it would be a little disturbing after a few to many in the pub.
Our room was clean and comfortable. Well, two of the three beds in our room were comfortable but one of the mattresses was definitely due to be replaced. It was not a factor for us since we only needed two beds. We just used the one with the bed mattress to store our suitcases. :-)
Our room had orange walls & decor; when we came in at the end of the day the room glowed orange ~ not really a restful color choice for a bedroom. (Friends in a different room had a more soothing pale blue & green decor which was much nicer.)
