“Do not go to this restaurant”
Reviewed 24 March 2014 via mobile

Recently spent €50 on 3 basic 'open sandwiches' and weak coffees...total rip off...the damage places like this does to the tourist industry is really potent

“Good food quick just off M7”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

I've airways wanted a food stop off the M7 and when I finally got around to googling, this came up. I rang ahead to make sure they were serving until. 9. They said they were but actually I think they kindly kept the kitchen open especially. (Their website did say 21:30 but I'm sure they'll rectify).

I had a chicken and mushroom pie with side salad for €13. It was very nice and served quickly. A little on the expensive side but I've yet to find anything on the M7 west of Dublin to rival it. I was in and out within 20 minutes was within two minutes of exit 27 Birdhill.

“An Old Friend”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

On our way back from Dublin airport recently we decided to have lunch at Matt theThresher, wondering if it was as good as ever. The proprietor greeted us on entry as if he had opened that day and we were among his first clients. No change here. How does he maintain his enthusiasm? We were seated in one of the warm cosey little rooms just off the main bar. Soup of the day was mushroom - my favorite! After huge bowls of piping hot soup and brown bread we decided that we weren't hungry enough for the famous burger and chips and decided on the smoked salmon open sandwich. A good choice but what an generous serving. One shared sandwich would have been sufficient. We enjoyed it and abandoned any thoughts of desert. The proprietor, his wife and staff were highly efficient and courteous. The old world bar/farmhouse atmosphere to the place helps one to relax after a long drive on the motorway. However the toilet facilities remain somewhat primitive and cold in winter. Back to the motorway.
We will certainly be back Matt.

“Daylight robbery”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

What an awful experience. Have wanted to stop at Matts for sometime now while passing and finally did today. Really sorry I did. Horrendous food which is ridiculously over priced. Feel completely robbed. Avoid at all costs. Im not surprised at all the negative reviews but am surprised a place like this does the amount of business it seems to do. Despicable to think they can charge their customers that amout of money for food so bad. Very disappointed.

“Front of House from Dark Ages”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Come out, come out, wherever ye are!!! - Management should treat themselves to a Management Refresher Course asap. Beady eyeballing & type-casting their customers doesn't bowl well in the modern age of supposed, casual dining. It's a pub guys, not the Ritz Carlton in the 80's. Ps. Watch out for "cash only" policy invoked by management. A Cead mile Failte with a disjointed managerial twist!!! Keep it up guys and you won't see too many returning customers (hint hint) ;-)
