Stayed at the Granville last month while touring Ireland. It's in a great location about 15 mins walk from the train station and close to a lot of the shopping and dining in Waterford. The rooms are quite nice and comfortable. There's great food downstairs in the bar. Overall I was very pleased.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review having toured Ireland. We very much appreciate your kind comments. We are very fortunate to be in the location we are, close to the historic, business and shopping centre of Waterford. Glad also that you enjoyed the food we offer. Perhaps you will get the opportunity to stay with us again.

The Granville is a lovely hotel situated opposite the Suir river. It is convenient for the sights of Waterford. Loved our bedroom although being on the 4 th floor front of hotel we needed to keep our velux window open through the night. This meant there were continuous traffic noises. Nevertheless our bed and pillows were extremely comfy and sleeping wasn't really a problem.
We were facing some buildings opposite side of the river which had a huge advertisment for the visit of the tall ships. We became exited thinking that we'd get up in the morning to a full view of these magnificent yachts and ships!
Unfortunately we realised, when no ships appeared, that the advert was for 2011!! What a shame!!!

Glad that you enjoyed your stay at The Granville Hotel. I can also understand what your disappointment not seeing the Tall Ships the next morning. Pity perhaps next time as we often have some visiting tall ships tied up along the quay. Thank you for taking the time to write your review and that you appreciated the breakfast choices. This is nice for us to read as we are trying very hard to make breakfast a very good experience at The Granville Hotel.

This is a gorgeous old hotel with period furnishings and old style ambience Our room was decorated in shades of red and looked more like a top quality bed and breakfast establishment. A big bow window with an antique looking table and chairs was a perfect touch. The bathrooms are also furnished in period style. The halls and public areas were clean, beautifully decorated and well maintained. We were traveling with a large group and ate dinner in the hotel. The food was delicious and service..excellent. Would definitely stay here again.

The Granville Hotel is a lovely, old, quality period property near the water in Waterford. The management has taken care to maintain the period feel with quality original style (but new and updated) furnishings and richer colours appropriate to the time. For those that don't like traditional architecture and decor, this hotel may not be the one for you. (The rooms and public areas may appear to be dark and old-fashioned to you). But for those that do, it will be a rich experience as the hotel has been nicely done in this style. The hotel was not particularly damp or musty, though it does have a patina of age. Rooms and public areas were kept clean and well-maintained.

We were part of a bus tour of Ireland. The hotel very competently managed the demands of our sudden arrival as well as the en masse dining we required.

Breakfast was of an average standard, partly buffet and partly hot meal served on order. The evening meal, however, was quite exceptional with numerous courses of traditional Irish food in a homecooked style. Service was a little spotty, mainly in just the level of friendliness between staff (some may have been a little task oriented), but nothing we could take offence to. There was also a large and intimate bar on the ground floor that looked inviting for a drink.

All in all this hotel had a lot to recommend it as it maintained the high standards of accommodation that we experienced throughout our CIE tour.

Many thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review. Reviews we find are always very helpful to maintain standards. It was interesting for me to look up the meaning of the word “patina” of age in the little Oxford dictionary.” A soft glow on wooden furniture produced by age and polishing. We like that phrase and I thank you for it as I am sure we will be using this term in the future We appreciate the detail of your review and that you would recommend the Granville Hotel to others. Perhaps you may visit us again with CIE tours in the future.

We booked a ferry crossing from Fishguard to Roslare with Stenna and the hotel was included. The hotel was incredible, it was so majestic. Very comfortable rooms, excellent food and service. The staff could not do enough for you. Even when we had a very early return ferry crossing and had to leave hotel at 6.30 am they made us breakfast at 6pm, full Irish. Close to the busy shopping centres and Waterford Crystal. Car parking was free which was opposite the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter

experience come together. We really try to achieve a high standard of customer service and would like to thank for the time you took to write the review and hopefully you will visit the Granville Hotel again.

I just read a review on the Granville hotel in Waterford by Leawood Kansas and am appaled at what I read. What planet is this person on to say that the weather in Waterford was in the 70s . In my life Ireland never saw that temp or half of it. To say the Granville hotel was antiquated and musty is totally not true. I live in Waterford and we are very proud of the Granville . The owners work hard at keeping this beautiful hotel in immaculate condition. To come to Waterford and have a hotel of this quality in the heart of such a historical place with a view of the river Suir and walking distance to Waterford Crystal, shops and all that the city has to offer is a gem. When in Waterford next why not go into the Granville and judge for yourselves bet you wont think its musty and antiquated. Only one thing do not expect the weather to be in the 70s!!!!!!!

Thank you for your very passionate review in which you expressed the pride you have in both Waterford and The Granville Hotel. The owners do as you say, do work very hard to keep the hotel in an immaculate condition and we appreciate very much the time you took to write your review. We however must also appreciate that not everyone likes the tradional patina of age that is maintained throughout the building which houses one of the oldest Hotels in the country. We must also take into consideration their opinions. Once again we really do appreciate your review.

I personally dislike quaint, antiquated, musty hotels, and this is all of the above. This hotel was part of a Globus tour of Ireland. Our room was so small that I had to pile up the furniture to accommodate our suitcases. The beds were hard and uncomfortable. The decor was dated and beyond unattractive. There was no air conditioning and the temperature was in the mid 70s that day. The lighting in the bathroom was poor and I could barely see to shave. The dining room was OK as was the food and service. Not my first choice of hotel if I were booking the trip!

Room Tip: If you like old, quaint, and dingy, this is the hotel for you!!!!

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and glad you enjoyed the food and service that the Granville Hotel had to offer.. I must appreciate your views of not liking historic tradional décor and architecture that for you are quaint, but to say the hotel was musty I need to disagree with you. We do create a patina of age that is endearing to most people. Once again many thanks and we value all feedback.
