“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 23 March 2013 via mobile

We've been going to the Tower Hotel since before we were married I think our first stay in the Tower was in 1999. We are now a family of 4 and go almost every year. Cannot fault this hotel. Friendly staff great facilities, excellent location. Kids club is great. The bar is great to relax in overlooking the river. Food always good and a great breakfast. Free parking the hotel is so central you wont need to drive anywhere. Swimming pool and Gym with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. The only fault is the family rooms can be a bit small depending on where your put.
Looking forward to our visit next week.

Perfectly located for exploring Waterford City and County, friendly and helpful Staff, rooms adequate, food of a good standard and reasonable price. Free parking a plus walking distance for shops, Quay and local bars.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and have the better room

The Tower hotel is right by the waterfront and from the main entrance looks very grand. There seems to be a modern updated side and an older done up side to the hotel. My room on 1st floor was in the latter. Warm and clean and quite spacious. The bathroom was tired and the shower defunct. A tile fell away to the floor and the room looked like it needed a rest. So you do get reminded that for the price this may be on the cards. The WiFi worked and the car park was free. It has leisure facilities but the chlorine was too heavy for me.

My family and I arrived on evening recently to celebrate a family event, low key, no big deal, just wanted to mark a special memory. We decide to eat in the bar as like I said it a low key affair. Long story short: six in party, ordered food, three arrived after a reasonable amount of food, one without ordered side salad, remaining three arrived when the first were finishing, still no side salad despite reminder. One meal of the second batch was incorrect, was sent back in and returned with same incorrect meal, just more of it. No apology, no effort at sorting it out on behalf of the waitress. It was my meal that was incorrect so I decided not to have anything as everyone else has finished. We had ordered a round of soft drinks etc which was served by the bar staff in a friendly and proper fashion and as he saw what had happened at the table he did not charge us for the drinks. The bar is dull, the staff (except bar staff) were bored, unhelpfull, and bordered on rude. The chef must be pretty bad if this is the best he can do. We were extremely disappointed as our mini celebration ended on a very sour note thanks to this 'Hotel'. All flags and marble, but no soul and no style!

Room Tip: a different hotel if the bar is anything to go by

I was on a business trip to Waterford and the conference was held here in the hotel so between that and the proximity to the town I decided to stay. There was nothing wow about the hotel but it did the job and the staff were pleasant.

Room Tip: I had a back room which had nothing of view and there was a back road which seem to be used as a cat...

This hotel is quite shabby. I stayed for one night with my husband last weekend. Some of the furniture In our room was broken and it all badly needs replacing. The room however was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was OK but my favourite - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs - cost extra. The hotel is very centrally located which has its advantages but gives this hotel more of a train - station feel to it. Would I go back? Honestly no.

We recently stayed for one overnight at the tower hotel, first impressions were fab , checking was super quick, the room however was just ok, we were at the back of the hotel over noisy fans and not a view at all. The curtains were no good at keeping out any light at all, so light streaming in very early . The room is a bit dated and could do with an update, but clean and warm. We had a drink at bar, where again the staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming. We had a meal outside the hotel, but breakfast the next morning was disappointing two staff on, and rushed off their feet and the quality of breakfast just ok. And because of the large volume if people had to wait for tea toast to be brought to our table. This hotel is very convient for town, parking is handy, and staff excellent, but def the bedrooms need an upgrade.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view
