My only problem was that breakfast time was very hectic and disorganised long wait for tables and even though you were delayed it finished at 10.00 and you had to ask for tea toast etc. The buffet ran out very quickly and took a while to restock. Need to be more organised in the mornings

This is a big hotel with a spacious reception area, bars, ballroom and conference rooms. There's always a risk of such places swallowing you up but the Tower Hotel just manages to avoid it, thanks to the helpful and friendly staff creating a pleasant atmosphere where you don't have to feel anonymous.

I see there have been some complaints about dated and tatty rooms. Mine was absolutely fine in all but two respects - noise and heat. It's nice to have a fully opening window but not where there is heavy traffic below or a street sweeping machine hoovering up at 5.30am, as there was in the front-facing bedrooms. And believe me, that window needed to be open - the room was so hot and stuffy.

Several colleagues staying at the same time commented on the stuffiness, an unexpected problem as it was fairly cool outside and all the radiators were off. It seems to be one of those buildings that just holds a lot of heat. I did notice that the internal ventilation system seemed not to be working, leaving smells in the bathroom difficult to clear as there was no discernible air movement from the vent above my shower. Fixing the basic air circulation system would go a long way to alleviating this build-up of heat without having to install full-blown aircon.

The food at every mealtime was pretty good considering how busy the hotel was during our stay. Carvery-style meals in the Bistro were generous and tasty while breakfasts were the full works, self-service, spoilt only by flavourless bacon that seemed to have been kept warm for too long. Weighed against that were lovely fresh tomatoes instead of the usual tinned stuff.

I didn't try the wi-fi or the pool/gym. Colleagues said they were all fine.

The hotel is in a handy location for riverside walks, shops and restaurants, the Theatre Royal and the Waterford Crystal showroom. Be warned: If you think you're going to pick up a nice little souvenir in Waterford glass, the prices are eye-watering. The cheapest useful items come in at about 100 Euros for a pair of whiskey glasses, several hundred for bigger pieces like vases, rising to five-figure sums for special hand-made ornaments. I'll stick to four for a fiver from Sainsbury's, thanks.

There are probably worse and better places to stay in Waterford but you won't go far wrong with The Tower, especially if you ask for a room not overlooking the main road.

Room Tip: Go for quieter room at the back, but check it first for modernity.

We stayed in the Tower Hotel and found the service excellent, big, beautiful rooms, and a quick and polite check-in.

We had dinner and lunch in the hotel dining room and both were excellent.

Our only problem was that there was a VERY LARGE, VERY NOISY, AND VERY LATE WEDDING AT THE HOTEL that night. The band might as well been playing in our room. Several of called the front desk, at all hours to complain, but they did nothing to help. The folks were outside and in the halls all night until 6 am.

We visited this lovely hotel again and can only say that every time we stay here is wonderful. We have excellent service from check-in to check-out. The room was superb, comfortable and plush! Being our wedding anniversary we booked the Bistro and as always the food was excellent. Jonas and Loic welcomed us, and the service and friendliness in the Bistro was second to none. We will continue to return to this lovely hotel which has a special place in our hearts. Thank you all again for the wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Choose a smart room......they are excellent!!

I stayed in the Tower Hotel last weekend and found the service excellent not to mention easy parking and a quick and polite check-in. As we wanted to sample the local restaurants and pubs it was in the best location as we only had a quick stroll back to our room. We also used the leisure centre, unfortunately there was a problem with the Jacuzzi on the Sunday but we loved the pool and the sauna. We could not fault the hotel on our meals and we had both breakfast and an evening meal here. We would definitely stay again if we were going out in Waterford.

Having read previous reviews, I expected a lot more of this hotel. The rooms were old and smelly, the tv was one of those big old outdated things and did not work. As we were with a globes tour and arrived late, I didn't,t worry about tv that night. When I mentioned it to staff in the morning, she said it,s a bi complicated, you have to press this button and that one and two together. I said, maybe you could have instructions on this. She said that's probably a good idea. (We were in Ireland). The room was very noises. Would not stay again, and would not recommend. Maybe we just got the dud room!

Room Tip: Not one in front near street.
