This place is delightfully quirky and very interesting. I suggest you start the tour on the top floor after watching the vid. This gives essential and interesting background which puts Waterford on the map. The rest of the artefacts then make more sense... After my visit I went looking for that cannon ball......

My wife and I were coming down from shopping and as we were walking past the entrance to the tower said "why not?" For a couple of Euro each (there are some advantages of being a senior citizen), we decided to take the tour.

A word of caution: this is a medieval defense tower. It has narrow stairways with uneven steps and low ceilings (deliberate design). There is no elevator, nor is there a way to add one and still maintain the historical significance. If you have limited mobility or health issue, this tour is not for you.

I suggest you climb your way to the top floor (three stories) and watch the movie and work your way down. From the top level, you get a good view of the quay, and rest of the city.

There are artifacts on each level, and a good explanation of both the artifacts and the history associated with them.

Your tour is self-paced and my wife and I took about 45 minutes to explore the place. If you are only in the city for a short time and don't have much time for sightseeing, I highly recommend you check it out. It is the quickest way to learn and feel the history of Waterford. If you have more time, take a short walk to the Medieval Museum for more details on the city.

Reginald's tower is a museum housed in a Anglo-Norman tower built over the site of a VIking tower. The history of Waterford can be experienced via a multimedia presentation, artifacts, and the authentic experience of climbing the winding stairs in the ancient old tower (Watch your head, seriously!). The staff inside this small museum were very helpful with any questions I had. There is a reconstructed Viking ship on display outside the museum, and the craftsmen working on the ship will gladly chat with you about what they are doing. You should not miss this if you visit Waterford. It takes just about two hours for the whole visit, and you will learn a lot.

this was great fun and lots to see and do- the history really comes alive- all the Viking stuff is fascinating. the staircase is a bit low and bumped my head a few times as I was trying to make sure the kids did not fall down the stairs but nothing too serious
there is an interesting Viking boat outside that the carpenter was engraving

Visiting this tower is a must for any trip to Waterford. Lovely staff, very informative displays and an audio-visual worth watching too. Really worth the money paid.
