“Traditional and atmospheric pub”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

We went to the Gingerman for lunch, and enjoyed it so much that we returned the next day for a drink.

We were served at the table for lunch. A charming member of staff brought menus over and took our order, although I had already bought drinks from the bar as we were thirsty on a very warm day. We both chose shepherd's pie and we expected a small dish of pie with maybe a small garnish of vegetables or salad on the side. But we were very much mistaken! What we received was a huge plate of food with a good serving of the pie itself, accompanied by a mound of cabbage and carrots along with two scoops of champ mash. We loved it, although we struggled to eat it all because there was simply so much food.

The Smithwicks and Metalman Pale Ale were very good, and the lunch was very reasonably priced. The only negative was that my wife's first choice, bacon and cabbage was sold out! Not to worry though, as she declared that the shepherd's pie was a more than adequate replacement!

“Great bar and food experience”
Reviewed 26 July 2014 via mobile

The Gingerman is a great historic Waterford pub. I sat at the bar and was quickly served. The Smithwicks and Guinness were grand. I was lucky that their special of the day was boiled bacon ribs with potatoes, carrots, cabbage and parsley sauce. It was a delicious Irish meal. The bartender was kind and kept up the conversation with me while he poured beers for other customers. Highly recommended!

“Not a place for a leisurely lunch”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Although not absolutely packed on my visit, we were rushed away from our table. I didn't even manage a second cup of tea.

We would like to apologise if you felt rushed and did not get a chance to have a second cup of tea.
It certainly is not our policy to rush any of our guests. We hope to see you again.

“The best club sandwich ever”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

If you want good food served by friendly folks, this is your place. We have had many club sandwiches over the years, but none with a fried egg on it. Delicious. The seafood chowder is always tasty as well.

“Brilliant Spot for Lunch!”
Reviewed 4 June 2014 via mobile

I absolutely love the gingerman for a bit of lunch, the staff here are really friendly, they go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need and give it in a timely service! I've tried most of the sandwiches and the panninis and they are lovely. The portions are generous which makes it really good value for money for €6 you can get yourself a nice sandwich and a plate of chips. The only thing I wouldn't be mad about is the seating as sometimes you can end up in a high up chair at a low down table which isn't exactly comfortable for your legs but other than that I must say this place is a great spot!
