We stayed here 4 years ago and had no hesitation in returning this year. It is in a very quiet location across the river (with lovely views) from Waterford. The staff are wonderful, friendly and cannot do too much for you. The food is just superb, my wife is a vegetarian and asked for some dishes slightly "off menu" which they always obliged with. I do not have a sweet tooth and normally ignore desserts but if you are staying/eating here you must have the Guiness creme brulee - it is sublime! Our only slight gripe is that the rooms are a little tired, they have all the facilities one would need but the room needed re-painting and the furnishings were a bit tatty. Overall we had a realy good stay and we would definitely return.

Spent a recent Saturday night in The Athenaeum House Hotel in Waterford and I would not hessitate to reccomend it. The service and quality of food and rooms were top class in every respect.
On arrival, it transpired there was a very large (70+) group for dinner but this not take away in any form from the personal and first class service we enjoyed in the restaurant. We were placed in a quiet area of the restaurant and had a most enjoyable meal, and evening in general. The bedroom, with a river room was very comfortable and spacious and overall a most enjoyable stay was had.

Room Tip: River view rooms if available are particularly nice.

Had a three course meal here today. The food was as good as the Michelin star restaurant in Kilkenny city. I cannot praise it enough. The dining room is very nice and staff attentive. Keep up the excellent work.

In all fairness, we had a standard room and not a suite like most of the reviews on here. A few things. Our room smelled. No A/C. Worst bed I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Poor location. We spent as little time as possible there. Very displeased.

Having stayed in hotels all over the country on business, I was dreading another hotel dinner. The Athenaeum however has a restaurant to rival any of the top restaurants in Dublin. I would give it top marks for food, presentation, ambience and service. As a hotel, the beds could do with updating, the bathroom was clean, modern and had good water pressure. The conference facilities also seem quite good. I would
definitely stay there again.

What a wonderful quiet hotel to spend the first few nights of our vacation after a long flight from the US. Our room was very nice, although the bed wasn't the most comfortable we've slept in and the room was very warm for a late September stay. The staff was exceptional, food and service great!

This was my second time staying in the Athenaeum, I previously stayed 3 years ago. The staff there are amazing, really kind and helpful. My gripes were that the hotel was way too warm for the time of year and the beds and bedding had seen better days. My bed in the twin room was sagging in the middle and I had to flip the mattress over on the second night. Also the sheets were very frayed, plus when the housekeeping staff came in on the second day, they never put replacement toilet paper - thankfully, there were tissues in the bathroom!! We had breakfast on both days and an evening meal in the restaurant where some family joined us. The two staff on duty included the manager and they couldn't do enough for us, they were very attentive and the food was gorgeous. We were there for a family occasion in Waterford, though didn't have children with us. However, we were joined one night by a baby and he was well accommodated. I love the location as it is quiet and off the beaten track - no horrible noisy stags or hens that you would get with the city centre hotels!

Hopefully they will be able to sort out their bedding issues! I would stay here again if the need arose.
