sadly after departure we realised we had left an expensive present in the room, on contacting the hotel no trace of this present has ever been found!!!!!!!!although the hotel is clean, friendly and centrally located the disappearance of the gift has taken the shine of our stay

The Fitzwilton is a nice, modern hotel in the centre of Waterford.
Check in was seemless and friendly but weirdly for a hotel of this class and in this tourist location, there was no literature available at all on Waterford and what to do there!
My room was clean and quiet but quite small with good amenities (free and fast wifi notably).
Breakfast was average with good quality ingredients but not turned over quickly enough so that at 8.30, the cooked breakfast didn't look too fresh.
The bar is very trendy and comfortable.
Reading back to the past reviews, it sounds to me like the Fitzwilton is letting standards slip, which is a shame because it has great potential.

My Boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel in March. I studied Business and Tourism for 3 years but I couldn't find any major faults with this hotel. Finding Parking was time consuming but we are familiar with Waterford City and used the Quay parking before and €5 is average for city parking overnight. We arrived late in the evening, took a strole around the city had a few drinks in the very comfortable and comtempory bar. There were some Hen and Stag parties in the hotel but don't be put off by this, they made the bar lively before they headed off to Clubs and we heard no noise during either of our two nights in the hotel. We had a meal in the hotel on the second night which we were delighted with, staff were friendly and helpful, food was plentiful. Hotel is perfect if you want to travel around Waterford, go shopping, drinking or just relax. We were in a double room on the first floor it was quiet, nicely decorated, had a flat screen tv, radiators which could be regulated. I don't think we saw any children while we were there. Breakfast is buffet style with a good variety of food. We chose this hotel beacuse of the good reviews on trip advisor and we were very happy with the entire weekend.

we stayed here for the w.end.the hotel was very nice-clean and contempory. it was very reasonably priced for the standard!the parking was a bit of a pain but there is loads of parkin bout 5mins from hotel on the quays for five euro for 24hours-which i felt the hotel could offer to pay since they cant provide parking for anyone bar like 20 cars.!!we did get an unwanted wake up call at 8am on our last day tellin us our taxi was outside.....unfortunately we didnt book or need a taxi as we were sleeping!the hotels location is really central only a few mins walk to centre, unfortunatley this does mean theres lots of traffic outside the hotel but you hav to pay that price for citycentre location-just wish theyd had air con so we wouldnt hav to leave the window open and listen to it!

A group stayed in the hotel recently and at first thought yeah this is nice.

So as the weekend went we ate in the restaurant the food was minging, the staff weren't particularly nice and the icing on the cake was the fire alarm being set off at 11.30 on the morning we were checking out just to get us up and out of the hotel.

There was no need for this as everyone was up anyhow. They obviously hadn't a clue that it is illegal to set off a fire alarm for no reason as some of the guest where worried as to why it was being set off to which the receptionist replied "no no there's noting wrong"

Wouldn't recommend the place to anyone.

STEER CLEAR

stayed in the fitzwilton in March for the rugby weekend. We had two apartments and one three bedded room . we were a little apprehensive because of the competitive price we paid, the hotel room was a little small for three adults, but was well maintained with clean towels and sheets every day.The apartments were excellent well equiped for a self catering apartment ,good size bathroom and bedrooms . The food in the restaurant was good value and well presented, the nicest part of our stay was the reception and attentive behaviour of your staff particularily as it was the weekend of the horrendous storms and they went out of their way to be obliging

I stayed at the Fitzwilton for three nights a couple of weeks ago and was happy with the experience overall. Like a previous reviewer said, it was the little things that brought this hotel down... in this case the little thing was once again cleanliness.

I'm not saying that it was filthy, however over the time I was there it was evident that the housekeeping staff literally vacuumed around the bed and no place else. Dusty patches inside the door of the room were left during the entire stay - hoovering in the corners was certainly not done regularly. The ledge over the bed seemed to have layers of built up dust on it and it certainly wasn't touched while I was staying there. Not what you'd expect.

I realise it is only a little dust, but it is these things which could be solved in a few extra seconds during a room clean that make you wonder about the hygiene of the place in general.

There needs to be much higher standards of cleaning in the bedrooms and more inspection of these standards by management.
