We visited the JFK Arboretum in Feb 2012. The park is beautiful, so peaceful and pretty. The park would be better to visit when all the trees are out and flowers in bloom, but nonetheless a wonderful spot and well worth the visit. You MUST visit the summit of Slieve Coillte after your walk - the top of the world, feels like you can see the whole of Ireland!

The John F. Kennedy Arboretum is a beautiful place to go and wander and just get away from it all.... It features lush green walkways and many many varieties of trees. Make sure to grab a Eucalyptus leave or two, roll them between the palms of your hands and take a deep breath. Try a few different varieties to get the different fragrances...

Combine with a trip up Slievecoiltia (the entrance is almost straight across the road from the entrance to the Arboretum) for some Irish history combined with stunning views...

Visiting fron UK and travelling between Rosslare and Cork 2/3 times a year for c 20 years I have often passed - and ignored - the signs to the "RFK Arboretum". What a mistake!!!
The Arboretum is a well hidden gem!
There are over 600 acres of well managed land with over 4500 types of trees and shrubs (including for example 500 different rhododendrons!). There is a main path down to the lake and numerous inviting winding paths off in all directions. There is a nature trail and well signposted walks. There is also a road up to a summit with panoramic views over six counties (on a good day). There is a Visitors Centre, tea room and shop.
For those that know Kew Gardens (London) I would describe RFK as like a much larger Kew with a more informal feel - probably helped by those winding paths and far fewer visitors!
I can't understand why this 'attraction' is not better publicised in the Irish tourist literature.
I'm already planning a longer visit next year!

JFK is a lovely park with lots of space for kids to run. There is a wooden adventure playground/climbing frame that kids will love with picnic tables surrounding it. During the summer months there is a small train that operates (hidden in the forest!) and kids will love taking a spin on it. There is a lot of walking to see the entire space but for tree enthusiasts I'm sure it's worth it.
