“McDonald's is a treat :)”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

We stopped here for lunch and were delighted with with the food and service. The specials board had great variety and value for money. I recommend the banoffi pie with whipped ice cream. Yum! We will definitely call again. New Ross has the Dunbrody famine ship but all appetites were satisfied leaving Ann McDonald's.

“Mixed Feelings???”
Reviewed 15 June 2014 via mobile

Our family had a recent trip to the south east of Ireland and New Ross was a little town we fell in love with.. although please note most places close on Sundays so the town is very quiet. Lucky for us that is how we found this place. Off the main street its a lovely welcoming place.. with a shop at the front and beautifully decorated cafe at the back. We ordered breakfast... the girls were very helpful with our fussy kids!! Food was very tasty and portions generous. As we left we got to meet the owner who was very helpful with directions and genuinely pleased with the custom. I had to mention ow lovely her staff were and she commented on how they were all like a little family. Nice i thought!! We assured we would be back before we left for home midweek. Our return visit was in actual fact the following morning.. Monday. On our way to visit Vinegar Hill we stopped for breakfast. I was shocked at how different the atmosphere was!! The girl on duty that day was rude to say the least!! We were greeted with a grunt and were left to wait 10 mins just to see a menu as she pottered away at something behind the counter!! After another 10 mins she came to take our order. I explained how the fussy kids liked poached eggs only to be told "we dont do poached eggs at this hour"... Let me add it was 8:50 am. We ordered the breakfasts anyway only to be told we would be waiting awhile. At this stage i had lost patience and told the family we were leaving and would eat elsewhere to which my waitress replied "no problem!!" She was glad to let us leave. How can one place change so much in 24hours?? This place is worth visit if in the area.. just hope you fall upon the nice staff!!

“Nice coffee and huge snacks”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

We were in need of a coffee and I was getting hungry. We spotted this cafe just off the Main Street. The coffee was very nice and I decided on a medium tuna baguette. They are certainly very generous with the filling. Great value. (NOTE: Although the restaurant is called the Upper Deck, the cafe is downstairs ... easy access for buggies etc. At the time of our visit, some building work was going on and the toilet was unavailable. However, arrangements had been made for visitors to use the facility next door.)

“A pleasant suprise”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

Found this place by chance a few years back while visiting my old hometown for a family funeral. It was late evening and i used the small downstairs cafe and was suprised by varied menu at such a late hour. I enjoyed some homemade lasagne and homecut chips (delicious might i add). The coffee afterwards was very good. A year later i returned for the local patron and popped in again to be welcomed by a smile and welcome back from the local girl that works there. Feel terrible i cant think of her name as i have received the same welcome with her friendly banter on every yearly visit since. Nice to be made feel at home without being fussed over. Wouldnt think of looking to dine elsewhere in new ross while this place is around. Great food. Grand place. And the service. What can i say.. My regular waitress is a gem.

“Great find!”
Reviewed 4 July 2013

We were in New Ross finishing our visit to the SS Dunbrody about noon and asked for recommendations for lunch. Since it was a Sunday, we were afraid we might have difficulty finding a place. The guide at the Dunbrody suggested Ann McDonald's Upper Deck, so we gave it a try. We like to try places where the locals go, and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for. The food was quite good, I had shephard's pie and my wife a sandwich. The service was friendly and prompt. We had an wonderful time and stayed longer than we had planned, enjoying every minute of it.
