Owner description: The Tour – Reopening for guided tours mid-May 2017 Duncannon Fort is an impressive presentation of a bastioned fortress perched on the side of the stunning Hook Peninsula, County Wexford, part of Ireland’s Ancient East. This historic structure has gathered countless intriguing and awe inspiring stories over its 450 year history and holds one of the best vantage points to take in the beautiful Waterford Estuary from. Duncannon Fort closed for the season on Sunday 28th August 2016. Thank you for all the support this season. *Hook Tourism is a not for profit organisation. “"So called Ireland's only trench experience"”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2013

The fort is situated in the small picturesque village of Duncannon and is an ideal spot to visit if you are tiered of the beach and want to learn something about the area. The fort itself has some stunning views overlooking the sea. There is a maritime exhibition, tourist information center and tea rooms. There is also the so called "Ireland's only trench experience" witch depicts mainly Germans in ww1 and has a small military display . I was disappointed to hear this called Ireland's only great war experience as the local military museum in Carlow has a walk in trench and has been providing the "trench ecperience " for 12 years! The military show I would highly recommend if your down on the June bank holiday weekend.

Thank you all for the lovely feedback. Duncannon Fort is a wonderfully historic location where many different periods of history have played out here. Please be patient with staff as apart from a full time manager all staff are temporary and changed every year which makes it extremely difficult to give a consistant service. We do our very best with the constraints we work with, thank you for your patience.

“Very good, friendly staff and very informative”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2013

We went here while on holiday in Waterford, took the ferry over and booked in for tour, was only myself, partner and 2 year old son for tour as quite time but tour guide Bob was brilliant, asked if there were any particular interests in fort as our son was a bit cranky so he wanted to make sure we got to see what we really wanted in case we had to abandon it! Luckily he lasted the full hour and a little more for our tour and we got to see alot of interesting parts of the fort that are not available to view otherwise! It was quite interesting with a bit of humour and the staff were very friendly! Had a hot chocolate and tea in cafe and staff there again were amazing! Would definitely recommend a visit as view alone is enough to attract visitors with added bonus of a bit of history that dates back to Spanish Armada

“not bad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2013

visited recently was a bit disappointed with the maritime section, the displays need to be better looked after, there was mold on some and others were in a bad state, it wouldn't take much to clean up the place. it was interesting to walk around but would have preferred more history on the place itself and less on the nazi's in ww2, they had no connection with the fort. worth a visit but clean the place up. the guides were nice
