The folks at the Ros Tapestry center are on to something cool! Inside this small building near the Quay in New Ross, is the most delightful exhibition of historical panels. With respect to the story tapestries of old, these 4 by 6 foot panels tell the story of the history of south eastern Ireland, County Wexford, and the town of New Ross. Using crewel embroidery as their medium, hundreds of crafters work together to create magnificent works of art. They use a myriad of colors and many different stitches to depict various historical scenes. There will be 15 scenes in all when completed. In the front room of the building, you can observe a panel in the progress of being stitched. In back gallery, the completed panels are shown. A nice audio guide tells about the historical figures in each scene and explains what is happening. For people who appreciate craft as an art form, the exhibition is breathtaking. We enjoyed this more than we ever thought we would.
