“If you love fish you need to go”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

Whenever we get to Ireland we always try to get here for a meal. The food is excellent and service superb. The owner is a great host. You're made to feel welcome and engaged with without it feeling intrusive. Have to say the seafood chowder starter is amazing and a meal in itself when it's served in the freshly baked bread "bowl". Did the usual thing of regretting not ordering the specials they have when I saw them - crab claws, long prawns and scallops tossed in their own chilli oil. My wife had steak and it was perfectly cooked but it's fish all the way for me. If you love fish and seafood it's well worth a trip to Kilmore Quay just for this restaurant. That said, it's a great fishing village to visit anyway with a harbour that often has a seal swimming around in it and a couple of great beaches.

“Longing for seafood after disembarking at Rosslare”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

After spending time abroad, France in our case, you have a longing for Irish shellfish and fresh Irish seafood in general. Especially after ferry food. So a detour to Kilmore quay and the Silver Fox seemed like a good plan. We were not disappointed. It is a pristine little restaurant with an engaging owner. We ordered a mixed platter to share for 2 which had calamari in breadcrumbs that would melt in your mouth, 1 each, prawns in filo pastry, 2 each, gorgeous locally smoked salmon and two crab cakes which I would have happily replaced with another calamari( but I'm very fussy about crab cakes, my daughter liked them) and a mixed fresh salad. Washed down with a nice glass of Chardonnay and a good quality coffee and a hot chocolate, it was €21 for the platter and that was enough to satisfy two ladies. We followed up with a 99 cone from the ice cream shop and had a stroll around the pretty harbour, forsaking a boat jaunt out to the little islands in favour of a return to reality in Dublin.

“Excellent seafood, relaxed atmosphere,warm welcome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014

Happened upon the Silver Fox when recommended to visit Kilmore Quay on a long weekend in S. Eire.Family of 7 from 90yr olds to 20's. Great range of fish dishes we were looking for and exceeded expectations; full gambut of crab, prawns, scallops, mussels specials of john dory, turbot etc, etc... all very fresh & tasty, well presented and big portions! Relaxed and informal, long established friendly restaurant, top quality seafood we were looking for, would definitely fully recommend.

“Silver Service at the Silver Fox”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014

I am happy to say that this was our third visit to the Silver Fox, 1 last year and two this year (March and May) and it has never disappointed us. From the moment you enter the restaurant to the moment you leave the service, atmosphere and most of all the food is absolutely fantastic. It is also very child friendly which is a bonus as most places do not want small children but in the Silver Fox everyone is welcome. You don't have to be a big lover of seafood as there is plenty to choose from on the Early Bird and A La Carte menus. My other half is a big fish fan and he had a fantastic dish of sizzling prawns and scallops which was almost licked off the plate. The other plus is that they sell their own fresh breads, dressings and chutneys which we purchase every time we visit. Put this one on your list, it is a really lovely treat and worth spending a little extra cash on. Looking forward to our next visit very soon.

“Beautiful seafood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

We had a light lunch here and were happy with the food. It is mostly seafood so if you are not into this then give it a miss. The oysters were perfect as was the crab and smoked salmon starter that we had. The best part of the food has got to be their seafood chowder which is the nicest I have ever had. It was full of chunky fish meat and not too creamy, really delicious. A little bit pricey though for 3 starters.
