“Yearly family holiday”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 via mobile

Our yearly family holiday once again was in the Talbot. Four adults and 3 kids. As usual the reception staff are very welcoming and a joy to deal with. We got a family room that was huge and clean room 214 .We also got a nice room for our parents room 227. Overall it was a good experience with a few things I thought were not up to standard.
Breakfast was good. Great choice but unfortunately at least four times we had to go looking for tea coffee and toast. Also the high chairs just seemed to be pushed back together and never cleaned. Each morning I had to clean one down before we used it.
We had dinner in the restaurant on 6 nights. Great food, super choice for meat eaters but vegetarians have only one option. Kids menu is great.
Service was great on four occasions but our last two nights were a disaster. This woman we had taking our orders was just useless. First night she messed up our starters. No apology. Second night she had to take our orders twice then after asking if the minestrone soup was meat free, to which she replied it was meat free. My wife's first mouthful had bacon in it. For a vegetarian a disaster. After we called her over to complain she then said oh yes the chef said there is bacon in the soup. After some time she finally apologised. But at the end of the meal she also messed up our drinks bill to the tune of €215. Eventually she got it right €95. So disappointed with her service.
We stayed on the second floor which I must say needed some attention. Corridor walls were dirty and had massive holes in parts. Carpets badly stained and were only hoovered once the week we were there.
Overall we will return again great staff in general just I feel the four star standard may be beginning to slip.

Stayed here with a tour group,as travelling solo, I find that the rooms provided are below par compared to those travelling as couples. The room provided overlooked dirty roofs, cables and back lanes. The sheer curtains wrinkled. The quilt cover was torn where it was tucked in at the base, the valance was in much need of a press.Mattress lumpy and uncomfortable. The bathroom was not clean, dust in corners and many marks on walls and ceiling.Carpet marked.Walking down to breakfast via steps, carpet stretched, dirty and worn.No fresh fruit provided for breakfast but other food provided was ok.Wifi free but use the bitbuzz system which wasn't so easy.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view.

We took a family break at this hotel recently and all in all it was lovely. The biggest asset this hotel has is the staff who are really great with adults and equally with children. I think they have realised that if kids are happy so are the parents. The swimming hour in the morning (part of the kids club) was really bril! we also took advantage of the club in the evening so we ate our dinner in the lovely restaurant as a couple which was devine. our only complaint is that the toilet in the room (which is quite small for a family of 4) didn't fill after flushing for hours so, as a result we had to keep going down stairs to use the toilets, even though we alerted housekeeping it hadn't been sorted by the time we checked out.But over all a lovely break.

Stayed at the Talbot for 2 nights with young family. Was treated exceptionally well .food excellent. Room comfortable although a little dated. Very good view of the water. Children friendly . We had dinner in bedroom twice due to kids ages ...both enjoyable. Staff so friendly especially in pool area apart from the man who delivered our dinner to our room on the last evening who slammed the food on our table didn't say a word turned around and stormed out the room slamming the door behind him ?.Otherwise an excellent hotel.

This hotel is excellent. Staff are so nice and helpful and great with kids. Food lovely and rooms too . Located right in the centre of the action. Parking and beside the train station and seafront. All in all great time and would stay again and again.
