Visited Wicklow Goal with my husband & two sons age 8 & 12; we were met by a matron (in costume) who took the group into the first part of the jail and really acted the part well. You could then visit the cells yourself; as you enter there are wax work historic figures and recordings of why they are there a history lesson in every cell! There is an errie feeling as you walk around and halograms complete the spooky atmosphere.
We were met on the way out by the jailor Patrick(real name) and he wanted to lock my children in for the weekend. My youngest was a little worried. He spent sometime with us explaining the vast history of the Goal and was really informative and knowledgeable.
There is a lovely coffee shop & picnic tables outside for visitors to enjoy.
All in all we really enjoyed the trip and I would highly recommend it to young & old. Well worth a visit!!!
