Our family visited recently. The tour is fantastic. Very interesting and the actors brought, what could have been a boring history lesson, to life and very enjoyable. Their interaction with the tour group was different and fun.
Popped into Jailers Rest café for food, which was surprisingly fantastic. You would expect with café's attached to attractions such as this to be mediocre, however this is not the case.
Special mention for the home made pate (with home baked bread). I asked if they sold the pate to go, sadly they didn't. Himself raved about the chowder. Now to explain, he is fussy about chowder (and orders it almost everywhere we go!) and it is some job to please him on this front. Well, I left with one happy chowder eater who liked that there was lots of fish used. My daughter had a dish called BBC. A most unusual combination. So yummy she said that she didn't want the meal to end. I asked the waitress about it, (we hope to recreate and impress friends) and it is pan fried chicken with brie and bacon melt on bloomer bread.
All in all, a wonderful day. Great value all round. Terrific tour and terrific meal. Well done Wicklow!More
