Ireland is undoubtedly a picturesque country. Many travel a long distance to go see its many attractions. However, for the "lazy" tourist, Dublin offers many opportunities at it's doorstep to experience some fantastic natural beauty. The Blessington lakes are one of them.
They are not lakes, to begin with - google the history! - I was lucky enough to go many times with my husband whose family had seen the valley before it was submerged. On a sunny day - no, there aren't many in this country... - you will enjoy the peace at the lakes' shores, surely a drive around the lake can be done in any weather. Bring a picnic basket, flip-flops (or a pair of Wellies) and enjoy.

I like walks and landscapes around the lake but I didn't like that the swimming in the lake is not allowed.

We were lucky on the day we stopped as the helicopter was doing a practice of putting out forest fires, so plenty to see while we had our cuppa, we always stop here when we come off a night sailing it's so tranquil early in the day.
